The works of Étienne-Martin, probably the greatest living French sculptor, embody two characteristics that generally accompany masterpieces: Timelessness and Universality. They seem to belong neither to Prehistory nor to civilizations, though their relationship to Humanity is fundamental.
We would more accurately define this immense work by saying it is eminently cosmic, maintaining close ties with the mysteries of life, the origin of the World, and the very notion of Creation.

Transcending all irreconcilable postulations between East and West, exhausting all the chthonic secrets of Arab culture, the esotericism of Egypt, and the Mexican dialogue with Death, Étienne-Martin fearlessly approaches the abysses of the Celtic universe and the pre-Socratic dawns. He rediscovers for himself the most deeply buried teachings of immemorial Wisdom, standing suddenly as a fantastic totem, an emblem of a pathetic, radiant, and sublime revenge against Chaos, Nothingness, and the Absurd.
Through its magical and conjuring nature, through the evident presence of cosmic sentiment, and through its relentless will for transfiguration, Étienne-Martin's work offers us the unprecedented spectacle of the resurgence of the Sacred in Western Art.
