Located in Merida, Yucatán, Mexico, the Curio Hotel was designed by Arkham Projects and Esquiliano ARQS and opened in 2021. The hotel cleverly combines historical and modern elements in its interior and exterior decoration design, becoming a unique symbol of local architectural culture.

From the outside, the hotel's facade is influenced by French architecture, showing a grand temperament. This style gives the hotel a sense of classical majesty, making it stand out in the city and complementing the surrounding historical environment. The area where the hotel is located is the core of Merida's historical and tourist activities, and the building is cleverly integrated into it, combining historical values with a modern tourist atmosphere.

Once you step into the hotel, you will start a journey of modern design that is completely different from the exterior. The interior design boldly adopts a style that is in sharp contrast with the exterior, creating a unique visual impact.
踏入酒店内部，便开启了一场与外立面截然不同的现代设计之旅。室内设计大胆采用了与外立面形成鲜明对比的风格，营造出独特的视觉冲击。
In terms of material selection, the designer carefully selected materials with strong local characteristics, such as Henaquin fiber, Tsaram wood and hand-woven carpets. Henaquin fiber may be used to make curtains, decorative fabrics, etc., and its rustic texture adds a natural atmosphere to the space; Tsaram wood is often used in furniture, decorative lines, etc., and its unique texture and warm tones convey the regional style of Mexico; hand-woven carpets are laid on the ground, not only for decoration, but also to show the local traditional handicrafts with its exquisite patterns.

One of the core concepts of the hotel design is to create a diverse atmosphere, which is achieved through the clever use of natural colors and unique shapes. Beige traditional gourd ladles (jicaras) have become a key element in the design. They are organically arranged throughout the hotel, hung on the walls as decorations, or arranged and combined into unique shapes and placed in public areas. The repetition of these gourd ladles gives the entire environment a sense of rhythm and rich texture, while also echoing the design concept of "Heart of the Sky", forming a visual continuation with the sky, making people feel closely connected with nature.
酒店设计的核心概念之一是营造多样化的氛围，这一目标通过对自然色彩的巧妙运用和独特的形状搭配得以实现。米色的传统葫芦瓢（jicaras）成为设计中的关键元素，它们被有机地布置在酒店各处，或作为装饰品悬挂在墙壁，或被排列组合成独特的造型放置在公共区域。这些葫芦瓢的重复出现，为整个环境赋予了节奏感和丰富的纹理，同时也呼应了 “天空之心” 的设计理念，与天空形成视觉上的延续，让人仿佛与自然紧密相连。

From architecture to interior decoration, materials and craftsmanship produced by local workshops are used, which not only demonstrates the respect and inheritance of local characteristics, but also demonstrates support for regional handicrafts.
