Qiu Yong, secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee, held talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on November 10.
They discussed further strengthening exchanges and cooperation, promoting high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and building a China-Indonesia community with a shared future.
Qiu introduced the cooperation between Tsinghua University and Indonesia in the fields of talent cultivation, scientific research and cultural exchanges. Qiu stated that Indonesia is an important partner country in Tsinghua’s international exchange and cooperation, adding that the university intends to increase channels for cooperation with Indonesia, especially in the field of AI in education, and welcomes more Indonesian students to exchange and study in Tsinghua.
Tsinghua will also fully utilize the Indonesia-China Joint Research and Development Center on Vaccine and Genomics to open broader prospects for cooperation between China, Indonesia and ASEAN in vaccine research and application.
Prabowo praised Tsinghua’s achievements in talent cultivation and technological innovation, and expressed full support for the comprehensive cooperation between Tsinghua University and Indonesia.
He noted that the Indonesian government is actively promoting online education to improve the quality of primary and secondary education in underdeveloped areas, hoping that Tsinghua can leverage its technological and talent advantages in this field.
It is hoped that both sides will broaden the scope of cooperation, make greater contributions to the high-quality development within both countries, and build a China-Indonesia community with a shared future.

As a significant outcome of the cooperation between Tsinghua University and Indonesia, the Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center has commenced operations on Kura Kura Island in Bali since 2023. The center aims to promote talent training, and facilitate cultural and academic exchanges in Indonesia and the Southeast Asian region.
Since its establishment, the center has supported the Belt and Road Initiative and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The center serves as an international cooperation and exchange platform for Tsinghua to strengthen exchanges and practical cooperation with various sectors in Indonesia and ASEAN countries.
Prabowo Subianto was elected President of Indonesia in March 2024 and took office in October. This visit marks President Prabowo Subianto's first state visit to China.
