Tsinghua University President Li Luming led a delegation to Cambodia to promote educational collaboration on November 7.
The delegation visited the Cambodia Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport as well as the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), and also met with Tsinghua alumni living in Cambodia.

During his visit, Li Luming met with Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport and Vice-chairman of the Supreme National Economic Council (SNEC) of Cambodia.

Li provided an update on developments at Tsinghua University, highlighting its commitment to cultivating top-level talent, with alumni in Cambodia making outstanding contributions to the development of Cambodia. He emphasized that educational cooperation is a key pillar in strengthening and deepening the China-Cambodia friendship. Tsinghua values its exchanges with Cambodia and will leverage its strengths in education and research to offer training opportunities for faculty from Cambodian universities. The University also welcomes more Cambodian students to pursue advanced studies at Tsinghua to support China-Cambodia educational cooperation, talent cultivation and the continued growth of friendly relations between China and Cambodia.
Naron welcomed Li and his delegation, and expressed sincere congratulations on China’s recent development achievements. He noted that Tsinghua is a world-class university that has attained remarkable success in talent cultivation. He highlighted the 2000-years history of friendly exchanges between China and Cambodia, now strengthened by the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. He introduced the development of Cambodia’s education, youth, and sports sectors, and looks forward to further advancing various forms of collaboration with Tsinghua. Specifically, Cambodia aims to send more students to study at Tsinghua University, thereby enhancing Cambodia’s higher education and talent cultivation capabilities.

Li Luming and his delegation visited the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), where they met with Rector Chet Chealy and renewed a Memorandum of Understanding, reaffirming their commitment to collaboration.
Li reflected on the history of friendly exchanges between Tsinghua and RUPP, noting the strong foundation of cooperation between the two universities. He expressed hope for deeper collaboration in talent cultivation and research innovation, emphasizing that these efforts would contribute to strengthening the friendship between China and Cambodia and support their shared development goals through academic insight and expertise.
Chet welcomed Li and his delegation, providing an overview of RUPP’s history and academic planning. He affirmed the University’s commitment to advancing collaboration with Tsinghua University, working together to support the growth and prosperity of education at both institutions and in both countries.
During his visit, Li met with Tsinghua alumni living and working in Cambodia, where he shared the University’s recent achievements and expressed gratitude for their ongoing support and dedication. He commended the alumni for their outstanding career accomplishments and for their active contributions to Cambodia’s development and China-Cambodia relations.
Li encouraged alumni to continue supporting the University’s growth and to further contribute to strengthening China-Cambodia friendship and cooperation. Alumni shared updates on their personal and professional growth and expressed deep affection for their alma mater.
