Volunteer teaching in Cambodia: Embracing Village Childhood
Belle Ying Loi
School of Social Sciences
During Belle’s first visit to Cambodia, she volunteered by teaching at a local English school in a village. She also visited various places there and interacted with locals to understand the history and culture of the country. Besides teaching English, she hosted a sports meet at a local primary school, having fun with the kids while raising sports awareness in the village. One of her most memorable moments was when the kids gathered around her, curious about the details on her laptop screen. She was touched by their curiosity as she introduced them to new aspects of the world. This short visit to the village allowed her to make connections with people of different backgrounds and languages. It also filled her with gratitude for the privileged education she had received compared to the village children.
