Tsinghua University recently hosted a delegation from Singapore's Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to discuss expanding collaboration in education and research. The visit underscored both institutions’ shared commitment to enhancing academic partnerships and driving innovation to address global challenges. During the meeting, leaders from both universities expressed optimism about building stronger ties across a range of disciplines, with particular emphasis on fostering joint research and promoting international exchange.
At the meeting, Qiu Yong, secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee, stressed the importance of expanding joint research, enhancing academic exchanges, and fostering interdisciplinary innovation. He highlighted Tsinghua’s global strategy and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to strengthening ties with leading institutions like NTU. Qiu emphasized that international collaboration in areas such as artificial intelligence, medical sciences, and healthcare systems is crucial for addressing global challenges and driving future progress.
NTU representatives, led by Goh Swee Chen, chair of the NTU Board of Trustees, echoed this enthusiasm for strengthening ties between the two universities. Goh acknowledged Tsinghua’s strong academic capabilities, particularly in the emerging field of medical sciences, and expressed NTU’s interest in advancing dialogue and collaboration. She noted that both universities are well-positioned to leverage their expertise in AI, healthcare, and data science to drive innovation and address evolving global challenges.
Following the meeting, participants from both universities engaged in discussions on future cooperation opportunities. Tsinghua's Vice President, Yang Bin, provided an overview of the university’s strategic development, while the Vice Provost, Wong Tien Yin, shared insights into the ongoing expansion of Tsinghua Medicine. The two universities explored avenues for joint research, particularly in AI applications and healthcare infrastructure development.
After the discussions, the NTU delegation toured Tsinghua’s Laboratory of Imaging and Intelligent Technology and Schwarzman College. Earlier meetings had brought together senior leaders from both universities, along with representatives from key academic and administrative departments, for in-depth discussions on future collaboration. Both institutions are well-positioned to strengthen their partnership in academic research and innovation, fostering new discoveries that will address pressing global challenges.
