POSITION DESCRIPTION

Research Associate, Graduate Student, Postdoctoral Associate Opportunities at Texas A&M University

Multiple full-time openings at different levels are available in Dr. Juan Dong's laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at Texas A&M University. The Dong lab employs a combination of molecular genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, and proteomics to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying cell polarity, asymmetric cell division, and developmental patterning in plants. Our selected publications in the past five years include Xue et al., 2024 Curr. Biol., Guo et al., 2022 Nat. Commun.; Wang et al., 2022 Nat. Commun.; Guo et al.,2021 Nat. Plants; Bian et al., 2020 P.N.A.S.; Xue et al., 2020 PLoS Genet. Successful candidates are anticipated to contribute, but not limited, to the following projects:

  • Functional characterization of newly identified proteins associated with the polarity complexes in stomatal development and pore formation.

  • Identification of regulators for nuclear-cytoplasmic communication in stomatal development and patterning.

  • Identification of chromatin and transcriptional regulators in specifying the plasticity of stomatal stem cell behaviors.

  • Identification of molecular components in planar cell polarity in Arabidopsis and characterization of their roles in plant asymmetric and responsive growth.
Research Associates: M.S. degree with a strong background and expertise in one or more of the following areas: cellbiology, genomics, and biochemistry/proteomics. Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, and sequencing.

Preferences are given to the candidates interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree at Texas A&M University. Successful candidates will be sponsored to work with a J1 visa in the U.S.

Ph.D. Students: Candidates from various majors, such as genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, and crop breeding, among others, may apply through one of the two graduate programs (Department of Biology https://www.bio.tamu.edu/graduate-doctoral-programs/ and Molecular Environmental Plant Science https://meps.tamu.edu/ ) at Texas A&M University. TOEFL score is required for international candidates. Given satisfactory progress, Ph.D. students will be supported and comprehensively trained through Research Assistantship for 5 years.

Postdoc Associates: A recent Ph.D. degree in plant genetics, cell/molecular biology, or a related discipline. Candidateswith intensive plant cell biology experience are highly desired. Candidates must be capable of independent planning, design, execution, and evaluation of experiments.
