We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the guests who attended and the enthusiastic new students who participated. This event aimed to provide essential information and support to Malaysian students who are about to study in China. The event was rich in content, so let's look back at the highlights of the 2024 Pre-Departure Briefing Activity!

Opening Speech

01

Welcome Speech by MSAC President Chong Yee Mun

First, the President of the Malaysian Students Association in China (MSAC), Miss Chong Yee Mun, extended a warm welcome to everyone. The President shared some valuable insights and advice with the freshmen, emphasizing that, as Malaysian international students, we represent our country's image. She hopes that during our study period in China, we can face each day with a positive attitude and showcase the demeanor of Malaysian students.

Additionally, she also hopes that new students can take this opportunity to gain a basic understanding of life while studying in China and courageously seek help from the Provincial Student Association or fellow students on campus when encountering difficulties.

The President also mentioned that university life is fundamentally different from high school. Here, learning will become more autonomous and flexible, and teachers will no longer provide hand-in-hand guidance as they did in high school. We need to learn to think independently, take the initiative in our studies, and make full use of the internet and various resources. There are many paths that can be chosen in university, but there is no need to rush for quick progress. We should proceed steadily and pragmatically. A solid and steady approach to learning and living will become the most reliable foundation when we look back in the future.

Finally, the President reminded everyone that safety is the top priority when studying abroad. Whether in study or daily life, we should always pay attention to our personal safety and avoid any actions that might endanger our lives.

02

Welcome Speech by Dr. Cherry Wei

Continuing, Dr. Cherry Wei, Honorary Advisor of MSAC, delivered an inspiring opening address to all freshmen. Dr. Cherry Wei stated that attitude plays a crucial role in shaping the study abroad experience, encouraging students to embrace these opportunities with an open mindset and positive outlook. She highlighted that challenges are opportunities for growth and that maintaining a positive mindset will determine how students respond to setbacks and seize opportunities. She also encouraged freshmen to step out of their comfort zones, take the initiative to learn, and actively participate in university activities to seek new experiences.

Moreover, Dr. Cherry Wei emphasized the importance of balancing academic study with extracurricular activities, noting that effective time management is the key to maintaining this balance. She encouraged students to join student clubs at their schools or universities, as these are excellent opportunities to make friends with Chinese students and engage in cultural exchanges between Malaysians and Chinese.

Finally, Dr. Cherry Wei reminded all students that we are ambassadors of Malaysia. Our actions and behaviors reflect not only on ourselves but also on our country. She hopes everyone to uphold the values of integrity, respect, and kindness and build bridges of friendship and understanding with people from different backgrounds.

B.Passport Validity

Passports with a validity of less than six months are not valid for flights, and we encourage you to renew them to avoid overstaying your passport while studying abroad.

If your passport has been updated since registration, bringing both the new and old passports to China is recommended. This is because the passport number will change after renewal.

E.School Registration

2

Common visa types and residence permit for international students

Ms.Kee then proceeded to introduce the X1 visa, X2 visa, F visa, and L visa.

The difference between X1 and X2 visas lies in their duration of stay: the X1 visa is intended for long-term projects lasting over 180 days, while the X2 visa is for short-term projects lasting less than 180 days. The F visa is designed for non-degree programs like language courses or cultural exchanges, whereas the L visa is for short-term visits or tourism and is often used for initial entry before converting to a student visa.

After arriving in China with an X1 or X2 visa, students need to apply for a residence permit within 30 days, which serves as a long-term visa for the duration of their study.

3

Maintain Constant Vigilance to Protect Personal Privacy

The discipline officer advises new students to stay vigilant and exercise caution regarding people, events, and situations around them. Additionally, students are not permitted to engage in illegal activities in China. For example, using a student visa to take up part-time work for extra income is not allowed. However, on-campus work-study positions and legitimate internships are permitted.

4

Social Media

She advised refraining from discussing sensitive topics related to Chinese policies or politics and from promoting illegal activities on social media platforms.

5

Tenancy Agreement

Ms.Kee recommended that when renting accommodations, students should search on Ziroom for legal rental options and consider signing contracts with established rental platforms for better security. Before finalizing a rental agreement, it is advisable to inspect the quality and facilities of the property in person. She encouraged freshmen to reach out to senior students in the respective provincial student associations for guidance in case of any rental-related concerns.
