Choi Min-hwan, a member of FT Island, has publicly responded to the ongoing "divorce war" with his ex-wife, Yul-hee, a former member of La Boom. In a recent interview with Dispatch on January 13, Choi denied accusations that his visits to entertainment establishments were the main reason for their divorce. Instead, he pointed to Yul-hee's excessive sleeping and her frequent disappearances as the primary issues that led to their split.

Choi revealed that Yul-hee would sometimes sleep for 18 to 20 hours a day, and when he raised concerns about it, she would become upset and leave the house. Over the course of their five-year marriage, he claimed that Yul-hee left their home more than 20 times. He also mentioned that she would often go out at night and return in the morning. Choi expressed his frustration with these behaviors, stating that he felt trapped in the marriage and referred to it in derogatory terms in front of his in-laws.

While Choi admitted to visiting a business in the latter half of 2022, he strongly denied any involvement in illegal activities. Last October, Yul-hee had released a transcript accusing Choi of engaging in prostitution, citing a conversation where he allegedly mentioned visiting a motel. Choi, however, clarified that the establishment he visited was a karaoke bar, where Yul-hee had celebrated her birthday. He explained that he inquired about a private room because there was no space available in the main area, but he denied any involvement in prostitution. Choi also emphasized that when they initially discussed divorce, the issue of his business activities was not raised, and it was only later that Yul-hee brought it up, asking for alimony.

Despite the contentious situation, Choi stated that he had continued to consider Yul-hee even after their divorce. However, he expressed doubts about her methods, questioning whether they were truly in the best interest of their children. While he acknowledged his mistakes, he made it clear that he wanted to correct what he saw as a false narrative. He ended his statement by apologizing, but he maintained that the divorce was a result of Yul-hee's actions, not his.

Online reactions to Choi's remarks have been mixed. Some internet users criticized him, saying that it was unreasonable to divorce over someone sleeping too much, and suggested that Yul-hee might need medical attention. Others expressed disappointment, with some defending Yul-hee and questioning whether she was being unfairly blamed.

Choi and Yul-hee married in 2017 and have three children together. Their divorce was finalized in December 2022, with Choi taking custody of the children. They agreed not to split their property or exchange alimony. However, following the revelation of Choi's visits to entertainment establishments, Yul-hee applied to the Seoul Family Court to modify the custody arrangements. She also sought 100 million won in alimony, 1 billion won in property division, and child support for their three children.
