A recent video from a Chinese businessman in Malaysia has sparked widespread backlash after he criticized Malay workers for their alleged poor work ethic. In the one-minute clip, the entrepreneur complained about hiring staff from Malaysia's Malay-Muslim majority, claiming they were uncommitted, frequently took leave, and refused to work overtime. He also claimed they requested salary advances due to "poor financial management."

The video, which was in Chinese and went viral last week, painted a negative picture of the Malay workforce. The businessman described their absenteeism as "out of your imagination" and criticized their practice of attending prayers at the mosque on Fridays, which he claimed led to their absence for the entire afternoon. He also mentioned that the workers’ work quality was substandard.

The entrepreneur’s comments quickly drew condemnation from Malaysians, who expressed outrage on social media. Many criticized him for focusing solely on profits and for making sweeping generalizations about the country’s workers without recognizing their individual contributions or challenges. His remarks have also reignited concerns about the growing presence of Chinese businesses in Malaysia, with some locals feeling that their businesses are being overshadowed by foreign investments.

This controversy reflects broader tensions in Malaysia, where the increasing number of Chinese investments has stirred debates over the impact on local businesses and employment practices. The video not only ignited a discussion on work culture but also raised issues of cultural sensitivity and respect for the workforce.

Malaysians have since voiced their opinions, urging a more respectful approach to managing and understanding the local workforce, and stressing that productive work relationships are built on mutual respect and understanding.
