KeYi Gallery is honored to represent artists Luo Ran and Wang LiYou in the Harkawik group exhibition “An Average Comet.” The exhibition explores the reproduction of both the artist's studio and the external world, highlighting contemporary artists' perspectives on mimesis and focusing on practices that copy, borrow, appropriate, recreate, or otherwise duplicate. “An Average Comet” features 30 contemporary artists, including: Ēriks Apaļais, Zoë Argires, Katrīna Biksone, Chen Xiaoguo, Nehemiah Cisneros, Cooper Cox, Don Doe, Casimir Ernest Gasser, Kaspars Groševs, Isaac Soh Fujita Howell, Nadya Isabella, Steve Keister, Jack Kenna, Masha Kovtun, Luo Ran, George McGoldrick, Mahsa Merci, Tanja Nis-Hansen, Nereida Patricia, Vika Prokopaviciute, Ieva Putniņa, Cake, Adelisa Selimbašić, Guillermo Serrano Amat, Olivia Vigo, Wang Liyou, Andrew Woolbright, Emily Rose Wright, Yang Xinyi, and Zile Ziemele. They delve into the phenomena, logics, and conditions of mimesis, showcasing these artistic practices on a continuum between metaphorical and discordant activities, suggesting a world that quietly and insistently exists beyond the gallery door.

模仿是最古老的视觉艺术哲学概念的基础原则,也是最易于被当代图像消耗的概念。其中最形象生动的方式是通过艺术来表现,即捕捉“外面的”世界并将其再现给观众。

Mimesis is the foundational principle of the oldest philosophical concepts in visual art and is also the concept most readily consumed by contemporary imagery. The most vivid and concrete expression of this is through art, which captures the “outside” world and reproduces it for the viewer.

模仿用来解释一方面对模仿的基本冲动,即观察行为并不加思索地模仿;另一方面则是通过再现自然世界的本质特征,并非简单复制,生成类似但并不完全相同的效果。很难想象一种没有模仿、没有再现概念的视觉艺术形式。毕竟,创造一个从无到有的世界有什么意义呢?在这种意义上,模仿可以被视为另一种事物的必要条件,同时允许其可能性并揭示主导话语的“虚幻整体”。

Mimesis serves to explain, on one hand, the basic impulse to imitate, which involves observing behavior and mimicking it without much thought; on the other hand, it involves reproducing the essential features of the natural world, not through simple replication but by generating effects that are similar yet not identical. It is hard to imagine a form of visual art without mimesis or the concept of reproduction. After all, what is the meaning of creating a world from nothing? In this sense, mimesis can be seen as a necessary condition for the existence of other things, simultaneously enabling their possibility and revealing the “illusory whole” of dominant discourse.

罗然的画面内容是关注当下视觉图景以及生成种种图像背后的逻辑。他把这种关注和探索理解为一场游戏:艺术家可以同时成为游戏的体验者和制作者,其中的趣味意在不断发现和创造隐秘且复杂的彩蛋。在类似于匀速直线运动的语境中,他用虚拟软件中不同工具的特性轨迹对物体进行了各种介入方式,从而转化出绘画的工作逻辑。重新编辑不同维度之间的界限,尝试讨论一种在现实中悬空的节奏、运动、关联、边界和秩序。通过描绘工具符号和使用工具产生的面貌,呈现一种复杂的、柔软的、 过程的、非绝对正确的质地。虽然是具体对象但却看似抽象的模棱两可的图式,以此对抗当下优绩主义语境下所提倡的精英化的正确、聪明和有效等观念。

Luo Ran's work focuses on the current visual landscape and the underlying logic behind the generation of various images. He views this exploration as a game: the artist can simultaneously be both a player and creator, finding pleasure in the continuous discovery and creation of hidden and complex Easter eggs. Within a context akin to uniform linear motion, he employs different tools from virtual software to intervene with objects in various ways, thereby transforming this into a working logic for painting. By redefining the boundaries between different dimensions, he attempts to discuss a rhythm, motion, connection, boundary, and order that remain suspended in reality. Through depicting tool symbols and the appearance created by their use, he presents a texture that is complex, flexible, process-oriented, and not absolutely correct. Although represented through concrete objects, these seemingly abstract and ambiguous forms counter the elitist notions of correctness, intelligence, and efficiency promoted in today's meritocratic context.


汪立友的绘画将图像转化为色彩、形状、笔触的表达,通过图像的裁切与元素的组合,他尝试放大图像本身的指向性与内涵,将三维空间与二维画面进行连接。


矫饰的商品符号与生活状态被艺术家纯化为绘画语言,纯粹的视觉刺激在画面中酝酿。随着主题观念与绘画语言构建的逐渐深入,画面中单纯的事物变的更加的具体。同时,高纯度、鲜艳、刺激的色彩也逐渐引入画面,通过这些带有所处时代、身份隐喻符号的颜色进行一层与一层的叠压,将荧光色作为底色或夹杂在其他颜色里进行编排和使用。厚重有序的笔触将这些元素有效的整合起来,从而使作品的指向性更加的鲜明,情感全面的释放。画面本身传达给大家的则是由绘画本质规律所带来的纯粹的高级的视觉刺激和冲动。

Wang Liyou's paintings transform images into expressions through colors, shapes, and strokes. Through the cutting of images and the combination of elements, he tries to enlarge the directivity and connotation of the image itself and connect the three-dimensional space with the two-dimensional picture.


The pretentious commodity symbols and living conditions are purified by the artist into painting language, and the pure visual stimulation is brewing in the picture. With the gradual deepening of the theme concept and painting language construction, the simple things in the picture become more specific. At the same time, high-purity, bright and stimulating colors are gradually introduced into the picture. These colors with the era and identity metaphor symbols are superimposed layer by layer, and fluorescent colors are used as the background color or mixed with other colors for arrangement and use. The thick and orderly brushstrokes effectively integrate these elements, so that the directivity of the work is more distinct and the emotion is fully released. The picture itself conveys to everyone the pure high-level visual stimulation and impulse brought by the essential law of painting.

罗然,1992年生于甘肃兰州,2014年本科毕业于中国美术学院漆艺专业,2018年研究生毕业于中国美术学院漆艺专业。其作品曾被 X 美术馆,四方当代美术馆等机构收藏。

Luo Ran, born in Lanzhou, Gansu Province in 1992, graduated with a bacheler from the Lacquer Painting Department fo China Academy of Arts (CAA) in 2014, and with a master degree of the same specialisation of CAA in 2018. His works have been collected by X Museum, Sifang Art Museum and other institutions.

汪立友,1998 年生于辽宁,分别于2019 年、2022年获鲁迅美术学院油画系学士学位以及硕士学位。现生活和工作于北京。他的绘画聚焦于纯粹的形式,通过制造传统意义的不在场或是隐匿来使得物象的自然意义成为了理解图像本质意义的通道,物体、空间、颜色与身份的理解和平面性的处理被联系了起来。艺术家通过对视觉元素的解码和编排,构造了一个在立体空间中的报纸剧场,反映和体现着艺术家对当下社会现象与个人身份认知的思考。他的作品曾被X美术馆、星美术馆等机构收藏。

Wang Liyou, born in Liaoning Province in 1998, graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in 2019 with a bachelor's degree, graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in 2022 with a master's degree, and now lives and works in Beijing.His paintings focus on pure form, making the natural significance of the object a gateway to understanding the essential meaning of the image by creating an absence or invisibility of traditional meanings, where objects, space, color are linked to the understanding of identity and the treatment of flatness. By decoding and arranging the visual elements, the artist constructs a newspaper theater in three-dimensional space, reflecting and embodying the artist's thoughts on current social phenomena and personal identity.His works have been collected by X Museum 、Start Museum and other institutions.
