The untimely death of 25-year-old Lu Wenna, an auxiliary police officer from Yunnan, has left many on social media mourning her resilience and determination in the face of terminal cancer.

Lu passed away on December 6, after battling a rare and aggressive cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma, which affects soft tissue. Diagnosed in May last year, she documented her fight on Douyin, gaining 32,000 followers who were inspired by her positivity and courage.

Despite the physical toll of chemotherapy, which caused severe weight and hair loss, Lu remained steadfast in her will to live. In a heartfelt video, she declared, “I want to live,” embodying the fighting spirit that resonated with her followers.

Lu’s life was marked by hardship. Her parents divorced during her teenage years, leaving her to support herself by working part-time jobs as a waitress, salesperson, and street vendor. Her perseverance paid off when she earned a place at a local military school and later achieved her dream of becoming a police officer.

Tragically, her time as a policewoman lasted only a year before the disease struck. Experiencing sudden vision loss and other symptoms, Lu’s life was turned upside down. Yet, she chose to focus on the joys of life, such as spending time with her mother, feeding seagulls at Dianchi Lake, and witnessing the flag-raising ceremony at Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

Lu shared her journey and practical advice for others with cancer through her Douyin account. While reflecting on her old photos, she expressed sadness over how her life had changed but added, “I love every day that I live.”

In her final days, she expressed gratitude to her followers, saying, “Yunnan is warm in winter. There is sunshine, my mum’s love, my sister, and your company. I am satisfied.” When asked why she endured painful treatments, she replied, “I have hopes for miracles.”

Her passing has drawn widespread grief online, with tributes pouring in. One user wrote, “Rest in peace, brave fighter,” while another said, “Thank you for the warmth you shared with us. May you find happiness in Heaven.”
