A recent matchmaking notice posted at Shenzhen’s Lotus Hill Park Rose Garden has ignited heated discussions online after a woman with a modest income set unusually high standards for her future partner.
The notice, written by a woman surnamed Zhang, reveals she was born in 1999 and stands 1.75 meters tall. Described as introverted and quiet, Zhang mentioned she enjoys cooking and dancing. However, what drew the most attention was her preference for a potential spouse. Zhang, who earns a monthly income of 3,000 yuan, stated she is looking for a partner born after 2000 with an annual income of at least one million yuan. Additionally, she noted, “as long as he is handsome, it’s fine.”
Zhang’s bold criteria quickly spread across Chinese social media platforms, sparking debates on dating standards and self-awareness. Many netizens questioned whether her expectations were realistic, considering her own financial situation.
One netizen sarcastically commented, “Are handsome millionaires queuing up to marry women earning 3,000 yuan per month? I must have missed the memo.” Another added, “It’s good to have dreams, but shouldn’t we at least be a little more down-to-earth?”
Some users, however, defended Zhang’s right to set her own standards. “She knows what she wants, so why judge her? Everyone has their own version of a perfect match,” one commenter wrote. Others pointed out the disparity between her income and expectations, with one quipping, “Looking for someone out of your league is like playing the lottery - you can dream, but the odds are against you.”
While some criticized Zhang’s apparent lack of self-awareness, others admired her confidence. “At least she dares to aim high. Who knows? Maybe she’ll find her Prince Charming,” a user remarked.
