A Chinese professor has sparked outrage on social media after claiming that women who have 10 children are likely to live to 100 years old, contrasting them with career-focused women who, he argues, have shorter lifespans.

The professor, whose name and university remain undisclosed, made the controversial remarks during a classroom lecture in Inner Mongolia. A video of his statements began circulating on Chinese social media in late December, drawing widespread criticism.

“After giving birth to a child, you will be blessed by God. It will let you live longer,” he said. The professor further elaborated that rural grandmothers with eight or ten children often live into their 90s or 100s and rarely suffer from major illnesses.

The professor’s remarks provoked intense discussion online, with many netizens questioning the validity of his claims and accusing him of ignoring the risks associated with childbirth.

“Do you have scientific evidence to support your point of view?” one commenter demanded.

Another asked, “Are those women who die during labor also blessed by God?”

Some expressed frustration at societal and governmental pressure to have more children. “The cost of raising children is so high, and it’s exhausting for parents to educate them. I have one child and will not have more, regardless of what the government or experts say,” one user wrote.

The professor, reportedly earning 300,000 yuan annually as both an academic and a doctor, joins a growing list of scholars facing backlash for controversial remarks about China’s population crisis.

In December, Wang Xianju, a professor at Renmin University, faced public criticism after asking a Kazakh diplomat how to make Chinese women “obediently and submissively” have children.
