A 59-year-old factory worker in southwestern China has become the subject of nationwide fascination after revealing that she has dual reproductive systems and has given birth to two children - one with a man and the other with a woman. Her remarkable life journey, which saw her live as both a mother and a father, has left the public astounded.

Born in Bishan county, Chongqing, Liu, as she is identified, showed signs of different preferences from a young age. She often wore male clothes and cut her hair short, prompting confusion when using girls' restrooms at school. At 18, Liu married a man named Tang, with whom she had a son. However, shortly after the birth, Liu's body underwent unexplained changes, including the growth of facial hair, the reduction of breast size, and the development of male reproductive organs. Her husband could not cope with these changes, leading to their divorce. Liu kept their son, but soon moved to another county to work in a shoe factory, where she began living as a man.

While working in the factory, Liu formed a relationship with a female colleague named Zhou. Despite Liu's physical condition, Zhou persisted in her affection, and the two eventually married, though they faced legal hurdles due to Liu's female identity on official documents. In a unique arrangement, Liu turned to her ex-husband, Tang, for help, agreeing to support their son more financially in exchange for Tang registering a marriage with Zhou. Eventually, Zhou became pregnant and gave birth to a son, further cementing Liu’s dual role as both a mother and a father.

Liu's unusual story was first reported in 2005, gaining significant attention across China. Despite offers from doctors for a check-up, Liu declined, citing the high cost of potential transgender surgery. As a result, her identity card still lists her as female, despite living as a man. Recently, Liu’s story resurfaced online, sparking a wave of interest and amazement on mainland social media. Many were captivated by Liu’s unique life experiences, with one person commenting, "Being a woman and then a man, a mother and then a father, such a rich life."
