A 36-year-old woman in Hangzhou, eastern China, gave birth to a healthy baby boy just four hours after learning she was 34 weeks pregnant.
The woman, surnamed Gong, had gone to Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital seeking treatment for high blood pressure. However, doctors were shocked to discover that she was more than eight months pregnant. Gong had previously been told she was sterile due to a condition related to her womb, and her doctors had even advised her to lose weight before considering in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Describing herself as overweight and fond of desserts, Gong had not noticed any typical signs of pregnancy, such as weight gain or fetal movement. Her high blood pressure had been causing numbness in her arms, which prompted her to seek further medical attention. During a checkup at the hospital, doctors were surprised to learn that Gong had not had her period for months. An ultrasound examination confirmed that she was in the late stages of pregnancy, and immediate action was required.
Given Gong’s condition and the baby’s size, obstetricians quickly performed an emergency C-section, delivering a healthy boy weighing 2 kg. Gong expressed her astonishment at the situation, saying, "There were only four hours from finding out I was pregnant to the birth of my baby."
