Is consumer loyalty being properly rewarded? "Big data-enabled price discrimination against existing customers" refers to instances where loyal customers on platforms like food and travel apps miss out on discounts or even face higher prices comparative to prices offered to new customers.
In response, some young individuals are experimenting with influencing algorithms by portraying financial constraints through comments like "too expensive, can't afford it" or "not planning to purchase" to alter algorithm recommendations.

A young person cut a plane ticket price from 4,309 to 1,903 yuan by commenting "too expensive, can't go". Users shared experiences of discussing items on WeChat, then saw related ads on other platforms. Switching phones on shopping apps revealed price gaps of tens to hundreds of yuan for the same product.
Customer service staffs from travel platforms said that airline ticket prices fluctuate in real-time and are influenced by various factors. Despite the user's repeated comments, it cannot be proven that the final price reduction was determined by this alone.
Scholars believe that these methods, while effective, are not enough to completely eliminate "big data-enabled price discrimination against existing customers". The internet and algorithms can swiftly discern users' true intentions and behaviors.
The government urges online platforms to stop this practice, avoid different pricing based on user characteristics, improve transparency in promotions, and provide clear explanations for failed coupon acquisitions without deceptive phrases.
