11月7日下午,美中贸易全国委员会上海代表处成功举办了2024年度中国(上海)运营大会。海内外专家学者、会员企业精英一同就中国经济前景、中美关系走向以及中美气候合作等议题进行了精彩深入的探讨交流。 


当晚,纪念中美建交四十五周年庆典晚宴隆重举办。晚宴庆祝美国商界在过去四十五年中对中美双边关系所做出的重要贡献,美中贸易全国委员会将继续在中美两国间编织更多交流合作的纽带。 

美国驻华大使尼古拉斯 · 伯恩斯,中国驻美大使谢锋、中国人民外交理事会顾问、前驻美大使崔天凯,诺贝尔奖获得者、美国前能源部长朱棣文,上海市委常委、副市长华源,江苏省副省长方伟,美国驻沪总领事王汉等分别在现场和线上致辞。安徽省副省长任清华,全国政协委员、上海市公共外交协会会长周汉民、苏州市市长吴庆文、南京市副市长季铁军、盐城市副市长唐敬、美国驻武汉总领事柯儒思等出席庆典晚宴。 


晚宴近450位嘉宾参与,其中包括250多位委员会会员企业代表、超过25个省市的政府高层领导以及国际组织、专家学者。晚宴前,委员会及会员企业也与南京市长陈之常会面交流。

活动详情

美中贸易全国委员会许子兰副会长主持运营大会,欢迎各位嘉宾出席。  

美中贸易全国委员会高级副会长范诺亚(Noah Fraser)致开幕辞。 

美中贸易全国委员会会长克雷格· 艾伦(Craig Allen)介绍了委员会下一年的主要工作重点,包括持续代表会员企业面向两国政府建言政策,并积极推动美资企业在中国公平竞争的营商环境。  

中国经济前景是委员会会员企业迫切关注的话题,上海财经大学校长刘元春就对近期政府推出的一揽子经济刺激政策以及未来宏观调控的方向进行了深入的解读。 

随后,北京大学光华管理学院金融学教授迈克尔·佩蒂斯(Michael Pettis)和高盛首席中国经济学家闪辉与刘元春教授、许子兰副会长就中国消费、房地产、股市以及跨国公司新兴机会的见解和预测开展了专题讨论。 

复旦大学国际问题研究中心院长和美国研究中心主任吴心伯,安可咨询大中华区董事长麦健陆(James McGregor),克雷格· 艾伦会长就新一届美国政府可能对中美关系产生的影响交流了观点和预期。范诺亚高级副会长主持了相关讨论。

中美气候合作不仅对中美两国而言利益攸关,也为跨国公司提供了重要的商业机会。美国驻华大使馆公使衔商务参赞王勇安(Everett Wakai),美国能源部中国办公室主任凯特琳· 欧乔(Kaitlin Oujo)和空气产品全球副总裁和中国区总裁苏俊雄(Choon Seong Saw)就中美阳光之乡的进展和未来前景展开了深入的讨论。

美国驻上海总领事王汉(Scott Walker)发表了主旨演讲。他表示,美国商界在双边关系中发挥着至关重要的作用,强调了上海作为国际商贸中心的特殊地位,以及人文交流的重要性,并赞扬了委员会在推动双边经贸关系方面的不懈努力。 


许子兰副会长致大会闭幕词,感谢各位嘉宾的积极参与和大力支持。 

运营大会后,与会嘉宾参加鸡尾酒会。  

晚间,纪念中美建交45周年庆典晚宴拉开帷幕。艾伦会长致欢迎辞,指出委员会成员企业在过去45年中对中国所做出的卓越贡献。他承诺,委员会将继续致力于塑造和改善世界上最重要的双边关系。 

美国驻沪总领事王汉(Scott Walker)介绍了美国驻华大使尼古拉斯·伯恩斯(Nicholas Burns),伯恩斯大使通过视频连线参与活动。伯恩斯大使表示,美国支持在华美资企业,并称赞艾伦会长是推动两国合作的重要伙伴和领导者。 

中国驻美大使谢锋进行视频致辞,祝贺晚宴的成功举办。他指出“我们欢迎更多美企赴华投资兴业,也期待中美在气候变化、人工智能等全球性挑战上加强对话合作,既造福两国,又惠及世界。”

中国人民外交学会理事会顾问、前驻美国大使崔天凯分享了他对中美关系的看法。崔天凯强调中美经贸关系半个世纪的发展证明,互利合作是双方实现共赢、造福人民的正道。 

诺贝尔物理学奖获得者、美国前能源部部长朱棣文 (Steven Chu)通过视频分享了气候合作的迫切性,以及期待中美气候领域更多的交流。 

一段关于丹顶鹤的视频将活动推向了一个小高潮,去年加利福尼亚州州长加文·纽森(Gavin Newsom)在江苏偶遇的丹顶鹤,被纽森夫妇命名为“加利福尼亚”,江苏省副省长方伟就江苏开展的对美合作进行了发言,将继续支持美资企业在当地的发展。 

上海市委常委、副市长华源致辞中强调上海和美国是非常密切的贸易伙伴和投资伙伴,感谢委员会发挥的桥梁纽带作用,以及美资企业对进博会的大力支持。上海将继续深化高水平的改革开放,推动高质量发展,为美资企业在上海的发展创造更好的条件。 

晚宴重要嘉宾和委员会企业代表上台,委员会候任会长谭森致祝酒词,共贺中美建交45周年。 


随后中美艺术家表演了多首中外经典歌曲,笛子演奏《我心永恒》,二胡演奏《闻香识女人》等曲目,活动在《友谊地久天长》中圆满闭幕。

On the afternoon of November 7th, USCBC Shanghai office held China Operations Conference 2024. Chinese and international academic experts and guests of member companies gathered to engage in in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics such as the outlook of China's economy, the future of U.S.-China relations, and U.S.-China climate cooperation. 


Later in the evening, a reception dinner commemorating the 45th Anniversary of U.S.-China Relations also took place. The dinner served as a celebration of the American business community’s incredible contribution to the U.S.-China bilateral relationship over the last four and half decades, and USCBC’s commitment to continue building more ties for exchange and cooperation between the two countries. 

Nicholas Burns, U.S. Ambassador to China; Xie Feng, Chinese Ambassador to the U.S.;  Cui Tiankai, former Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. and Consultant of Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs; Steven Chu, Nobel Prize Laureate and former U.S. Secretary of Energy;  Hua Yuan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Vice Mayor; Fang Wei, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province and Scott Walker, U.S. Consul General in Shanghai gave remarks in person and online. 


Other notable attendees included Ren Qinghua, Vice Governor of Anhui Province; Zhou Hanmin, Member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and President of the Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association; Wu Qingwen, Mayor of Suzhou city; Ji Tiejun, Vice Mayor of Nanjing city; Tang Jing, Vice Mayor of Yancheng city; and Christopher Green, U.S. Consul General in Wuhan. 


Nearly 450 guests attended the dinner, including over 250 representatives from member companies of the council, senior government leaders from more than 25 provinces and cities, as well as representatives from international organizations, experts, and scholars. Prior to the dinner, the council and its member companies also met and exchanged views with Chen Zhichang, Mayor of Nanjing. 

Event Details

Melinda Xu, USCBC Vice President kicked off the Conference, and welcomed all distinguished guests to join the event. 

Noah Fraser, USCBC Senior Vice President, delivered the opening remarks.  

Craig Allen, USCBC President, introduced the council's key priorities for the coming year, which include continuing to represent member companies by advocating policy recommendations to both governments and actively promoting a fair and level playing field for American businesses in China.   

The economic outlook of China is a topic of urgent concern for the council's member companies. Liu Yuanchun, President of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, gave an insightful presentation on the recent package of economic stimulus policies introduced by the government and the direction of future macroeconomic regulation. 

Michael Pettis, Professor of Finance at Peking University's Guanghua School of Management, and Shan Hui, Chief China Economist at Goldman Sachs, then joined Professor Liu and Vice President Melinda Xu in the panel discussion to share their insights and forecasts on China’s consumption, real estate, stock market, and emerging opportunities for MNCs.  

Wu Xinbo, Dean of the Center for International Studies and Director of the Center for American Studies, Fudan University; James McGregor, Chairman of APCO Greater China; and Craig Allen, President of USCBC, shared their views and expectations on the potential impact of the new U.S. administration on U.S.-China relations.  

The discussion was moderated by Senior Vice President Noah Fraser. 

U.S.-China climate cooperation is not only crucial for both countries but also provides important business opportunities for MNCs.  


Everett Wakai, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs at the US Embassy in Beijing; Kaitlin Oujo, China Director of U.S. Department of Energy and Choon Seong Saw, Global Vice President and China President of Air Products thoroughly discussed progress and the future outlook of the Sunnylands Statement.  


The discussion was moderated by Jacob Lensing-Sharp, Business Advisory Manager from USCBC Shanghai office. 

Scott Walker, U.S. Consul General in Shanghai, delivered a keynote speech. He noted the American business community plays a crucial role in the bilateral relationship, highlighted the special role Shanghai plays as an international commercial hub, the importance of people-to-people exchange, and commended USCBC for its tireless work in supporting the bilateral economic relationship. 

Melinda Xu gave the closing remarks, expressing gratitude for the active participation and strong support of all guests. 

Later, guests attended a cocktail networking reception. 

In the evening, the reception dinner commemorating the 45th Anniversary of U.S.-China relations kicked off. Craig Allen delivered a welcome speech recognizing the impressive contributions USCBC members have made in China over the past 45 years. He pledged that USCBC will continue to shape and improve the world’s most important bilateral relationship.  

Scott Walker, U.S. Consul General in Shanghai, introduced U.S. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns, who joined the event via video call. Ambassador Burns said that the United States supports U.S. business in China and commended USCBC President Craig Allen as an important partner and leader in bringing the two countries together. 

Xie Feng, Chinese Ambassador to the U.S., sent a video message, congratulating on the successful hosting of the dinner.  He said, “we welcome more American companies to invest in China, we also look forward to greater dialogue and cooperation between our two countries on global challenges such as climate change and AI for the good of both of us and the entire world. " 

Cui Tiankai, former Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. and Consultant of Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs, shared his views on U.S.-China relations. He emphasized that half a century of development in U.S.-China economic and trade relations proved that mutually beneficial cooperation was the right path to achieving win-win results and benefiting the people on both sides. 

Steven Chu, Nobel Prize winner in Physics and former U.S. Secretary of Energy, sent a video message expressing the urgency of climate cooperation and his anticipation for further exchanges between China and the United States in the field of climate action. 

A video showcasing a crane created a memorable moment at the event. Governor Gavin Newsom of California encountered a crane in Jiangsu last year, which he and his wife named "California."  Fang Wei, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, gave remarks on Jiangsu's cooperation with the United States, stating the province's continued support for the growth of U.S.-invested businesses in the region. 

Hua Yuan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Vice Mayor, noted that Shanghai and the US are very close trade and investment partners. He expressed gratitude for USCBC’s role as a connecting bridge and for the strong support of American businesses for the China International Import Expo (CIIE). Hua stated that Shanghai will continue to deepen high-level reform and opening-up, promote high-quality development, and create better conditions for the growth of American businesses in the city. 

Distinguished guests and representatives of USCBC member companies took the stage to raise their glasses in celebration of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. 


Following the toast, Chinese and American artists performed a selection of classic songs for the guests, including the flute piece My Heart Will Go On and the erhu performance of The Scent of a Woman. The event concluded on a high note with a rendition of Auld Lang Syne, symbolizing enduring friendship.
