USCBC and Other Leading Business Organizations Meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New York
NEW YORK—September 25, 2024—Members of the US-China Business Council (USCBC), a private, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization of 270 American companies that do business in China, today met with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New York, as world leaders gathered for the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly.
“USCBC was pleased to meet with Foreign Minister Wang Yi to discuss current economic and trade issues and encourages both the US and Chinese governments to reduce trade barriers and expand bilateral trade and investment,” USCBC President Craig Allen said. “We also believe that the Chinese government should adopt policy measures that stimulate domestic demand and increase household domestic consumption, which is the best way to reduce overcapacity and raise business confidence in the Chinese market.”
USCBC was also represented in the meeting by Board Chair Raj Subramaniam, CEO of FedEx Corporation; Judy Marks, chair, CEO and president of Otis Worldwide Corporation; and Chris Clark, chairman of Asia Pacific for Visa, Inc.
They were joined by others from the National Committee on US-China Relations, US Chamber of Commerce, Aspen Strategy Group, Asia Society, and Council on Foreign Relations.
USCBC recently released the results of its annual member survey, which found that US-China relations and China’s macroeconomy top the list of challenges for US companies doing business in China.
