Typhoon Kong-rey, the 21st typhoon of the year, is moving northeast toward the coastal regions of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces, potentially weakening but still posing a risk of skimming the coast.
Due to interactions with cold air, areas close to the typhoon’s core could experience wind speeds of 13 to 17 levels, with gusts even surpassing level 17 over the next few days. From Wednesday to Friday, heavy rainfall is expected across Taiwan, eastern and northern Fujian, Zhejiang, Shanghai, and southern Jiangsu provinces, according to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA).
CMA data shows that no typhoon has made landfall or skimmed the coasts of Fujian or Zhejiang after October 25 since 1949.
Residents in these areas should monitor the typhoon’s path and prepare for strong winds and rain.
The temperatures across much of China this month have remained close to or above average, with sharp fluctuations between warm and cold conditions.
Over the next 10 days, China can expect continued wind and rain impacts from Typhoon Kong-rey, followed by a new cold front. Between November 3 and 5, a cold air mass will sweep southward, bringing stronger winds and cooler temperatures across the region, he added.
