Recently, Rick Owens, a renowned American designer famous for his gothic and avant-garde aesthetics, visited the Forbidden City with his wife and friends. After the visit, one of their companions posted on social media, expressing dissatisfaction after being asked by security personnel to leave due to their attire, which sparked controversy.

According to reports from Southern Metropolis Daily, on October 18, a staff member from the Palace Museum (Forbidden City) stated that they were investigating the matter. The museum generally has no strict dress code for visitors, stating, "As long as it’s not too exaggerated, it’s fine."

Recently, Rick Owens, along with his wife and friends, visited the Forbidden City. Afterward, one of his companions posted on social media, expressing frustration about being asked to leave due to their attire. They claimed that the security staff asked them to "remove their makeup and change into normal clothes" before returning. The companion refused, stating that their appearance was a form of self-expression and personal identity.

Before their visit to the Forbidden City, their unconventional and avant-garde outfits had already caught attention, with some netizens spotting them on the streets of Beijing and sharing photos online, leading to widespread discussion.

Some netizens supported their "freedom to dress," while other Chinese netizens shared that they had experienced similar situations abroad, where they were asked to leave due to their clothing. They suggested that tourists should respect the local history and culture.

Many foreign netizens also supported the museum’s actions, stating that "the responsibility lies with the visitors, not the site," and that "while personal expression is important, adapting to the cultural expectations of a place is a way to show understanding and respect for others' traditions."
