A 28-year-old Japanese model accused of murdering her 77-year-old husband has been acquitted six years after his mysterious death. Saki Sudo, who faced allegations of poisoning her husband, Kosuke Nozaki, to inherit his fortune, was cleared of all charges after prosecutors failed to provide sufficient evidence to the court in Wakayama.

Nozaki, a self-proclaimed playboy and author of the memoir The Don Juan of Kishu, passed away in May 2018, just three months after marrying Sudo. The multimillionaire, who built his 1.3 billion yen fortune through ventures ranging from scrap metal to liquor, was found dead in his home in Tanabe, reportedly from a drug overdose.

Prosecutors argued that Sudo, who was the only person present at the time of his death, had poisoned Nozaki to gain access to his substantial wealth. Their case pointed to her suspicious internet searches, including terms like "perfect crime" and "elderly death." Additionally, Nozaki’s dog had died under unexplained circumstances just 18 days earlier, raising further questions.

Sudo, however, maintained her innocence throughout the investigation and trial. She admitted to purchasing drugs at her husband's request but denied any intent to harm him. Her defense claimed that her internet searches were driven by curiosity rather than malicious intent, a stance that ultimately convinced the judges to acquit her.

Nozaki, who gained notoriety for his extravagant lifestyle and bold declarations about his relationships, had previously published works detailing his romantic escapades. In his memoirs, he described a lifelong ambition to pursue beautiful women, boasting about his sexual vigor even in his later years. He once remarked, "There is a risk I might die during intercourse, but to go to heaven like that is just what I want."

Despite warnings from friends that Sudo might be after his money, Nozaki expressed confidence in their union, stating in a column shortly before his death that he believed marrying her would bring him happiness. Their relationship reportedly began when he staged a fall at Tokyo’s Haneda airport to gain her attention.
