Flowing with the Wind - 2024 SCIE Sports Day

Life needs a sense of ritual.

Sports Day is one of such occasions

that turns ordinary days into something

extraordinary and memorable.

Late November marks the best time in Shenzhen

—a faint chill of the breeze

and the gentle warmth of the sun intertwined.

As the autumn wind brushes by,

sunlight penetrates through the clouds,

casting a golden glow over the track.

A touch of coolness lingers in the air.

“Shenzhen Bay Sports Center,” a modern, multi-purpose stadium, served as our venue. Its design, resembling a silkworm gently coiled, symbolizes growth and vitality—a harmonious blend of power and energy.

Students arrived early, filled with anticipation, beginning a journey that felt both new and familiar.

The sunlight shone just right, as if even the blazing sun was blessing us.

With the principal’s opening remarks, cheers grew louder and louder. The four houses engaged in a silent rivalry while complementing each other, pushing the atmosphere to its peak.

The surprise appearance of the mascots caught everyone off guard, and their playful “fight” left everyone in laughter.

The beloved school icon, "Nai Long," added a unique touch to the day.

The opening ceremony ended with a race among the mascots. The 100-meter race, one of the most breathtaking and thrilling events, was the first official competition, immediately igniting the crowd.

As the race started, the runners launched forward like blazing flames, dashing lightly as the wind.

Cheers from the audience rolled like waves, putting strength into every step the runners took. Encouragement and expectation intertwined into an invisible force, driving the athletes to push their limits.

When the first runner crossed the finish line, his arms spread wide to embrace the wind and applause, the crowd erupted into cheers.

Before the cheer fell back to peace, the second race began. The 200-meter race, enhanced by its length, offered even more suspense.

Who would claim victory? Could someone break the record? But the athletes gave the audience no time to cheer or ponder. In less than 30 seconds, the race was over, leaving us shocked.

Before the results could come in, another echo of screams redirected everyone’s attention.

In the distance, a figure leapt gracefully, overcoming every obstacle.

The triple jump, the ‘king’ of field events, began with a whistle. Athletes concentrated their energy in their legs, ready to unleash their power.

On the track, the 1500-meter long-distance runners were preparing for their race.

A daunting challenge, the 1500 meters was an event that can only be admired from afar. Even the thought of running made our legs ache and throats dry. The record of 4 minutes and 55 seconds seemed untouchable, sparking humor among many:

“My 800-meter time isn’t that fast!”

Near the finish line, the runners slowed down and joined hands to finish their race together—a moment captured by many, becoming the most touching highlight of the day.

Holding hands and finishing together was more meaningful than individual glory.

The lunch break, though brief, was well-planned. The cheerleaders’ passionate dances, synchronized steps, and lively rhythms vividly showcased their energy.

During lunch, students gathered on the field, bathing in the warm sun under the gentle breeze.

Conversations and activities don’t need to be fancy. Simply being together, taking photos, playing cards, sharing jokes, and laughing heartily captured the essence of joy.

In the afternoon, as the track events neared their end, the relay race arrived as the grand finale.

Under the glaring sun, four athletes walked shoulder-to-shoulder down the track, brimming with energy as they warmed up.

The familiar crack sounded for the last time. They sprang forward—a testament to trust and unity.

In the last instant, they overcame all obstacles, leaving the track beneath their feet.

With the event concluded, the Sports Day came to a perfect close.

Sports Day was filled with sweat, tears, pride, and perseverance.

The podium may hold only one, but there were always more than one winner.

As the sunset dyed the horizon gold and sunlight pierced through the clouds, the echoes of cheers slowly faded, merging with the blue of the sky.

In closing, we sincerely thank our principal team, teachers, and SLB. Their dedication and effort make such a dream come true.

The winds of the 29th may vanish into the twilight, but the winds of youth remain forever in our hearts. They will conquer mountains, carrying hope, and blow toward our endless future.
