On the morning of December 9, a gruesome discovery was made in the Sir Joseph Banks Park, located in Botany, near Sydney Airport. A jogger stumbled upon a plastic-wrapped package containing dismembered human remains just meters away from the main road. The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Li Zhuojun, a Chinese migrant who moved to Australia about 20 years ago.
According to police reports, Li’s body was already decomposed when found. Authorities informed her family of her death on December 12, leaving them devastated. Her mother, who also lives in Sydney, had filed a missing person report earlier this month after losing contact with her daughter.
Li was described by police as leading “a normal suburban life.” There was no record of domestic violence, criminal activity, or involvement with organized crime. However, attention has shifted to her husband, Rex Chen, who has been missing since late November.

Police released Chen’s details to the public, describing him as 165-170 cm tall, slim, with black hair and brown eyes. Detective Doherty, leading the investigation, stated, “At this point, we don’t know if he is a potential victim or a suspect. We hope he is alive to assist us in the investigation.”
Adding complexity to the case, police are investigating a third-party link to Li’s murder. Surveillance footage captured a suspicious silver Toyota Avensis near the dumping site between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. on November 30. The vehicle has been seized for forensic examination, though authorities have not disclosed its ownership or driver. They confirmed that the car has no direct connection to Li or her husband.
Chinese international students living near the crime scene have expressed concerns for their safety. One resident reported receiving police advisories urging the public to remain vigilant and provide any relevant information.
