Transformative experiences are experiences that radically change the experiencer in both an epistemic and personal way. They have been researched philosophically, but only from an analytic philosophy perspective and in a way that privileges modern assumptions about the self, the world, and the elements of a fulfilling life. In this lecture, Tim Connolly will explore the phenomenon of transformative experiences, and especially the topic of sharing transformative experiences, from a Confucian perspective.
报告人简介
Dr. Timothy Connolly is Professor of Philosophy and Religion at East Stroudsburg University. His research focuses on ethics in classical Chinese traditions as well as the methodology of cross-cultural philosophy. He is the author of Doing Philosophy Comparatively (2015, with a 2nd edition in 2023) and Foundations of Confucian Ethics: Virtues, Roles, and Selves(forthcoming, 2025).Currently he is working on a project that brings together contemporary discussions of transformative experience with perspectives from classical Chinese texts.
