Describe a skill that you learned when you were a teenager.

You should say:

What the skill is

When and how you learned it

Who you learned it from

And explain why you learned it

A skill I learned as a teenager was playing the guitar. I started learning it when I was 15 years old because I wanted to play my favorite songs and perform at school events. I learned it during my free time, initially using online tutorials and videos. Later, I joined a local music class for more structured lessons.

My first guitar teacher was a friendly instructor at the music class, and he was very patient with beginners like me. He taught me the basics, such as chords, strumming patterns, and finger placement. I also practiced a lot on my own at home by following online guides and experimenting with different styles.

I learned this skill because I’ve always loved music and wanted to express myself creatively. Playing the guitar became a source of joy and relaxation for me, and it also helped me connect with friends who shared similar interests.

 Part 3

1. What are the differences between learning skills on your own and from others?

Learning on your own gives you more freedom to explore at your own pace and focus on what interests you most. It also develops your problem-solving skills as you figure things out independently. However, it can be slower and less efficient without guidance. Learning from others, such as teachers or mentors, provides structure and personalized feedback, which can accelerate your progress and help you avoid mistakes.

2. Do you think teachers are still necessary considering that there are many resources online?

Yes, teachers are still essential despite the abundance of online resources. While online materials can provide knowledge, teachers offer guidance, motivation, and real-time feedback that videos or articles cannot. They can adapt their teaching to suit individual needs, answer specific questions, and help build discipline. For skills that require hands-on practice or emotional support, such as learning an instrument or language, teachers play an irreplaceable role.
