As a key part of the contest, the Historic District Photowalk took place as scheduled on October 29. This event brought together photography enthusiasts and professionals from across the country, who explored Qingdao’s core areas to experience and capture the city’s diverse character and unique charm. On the day of the event, photography enthusiasts began their journey to explore the heart of Qingdao at Silver Fish Alley. Located at the intersection of Hubei Road and Ningyang Road, this historic alley preserves the charm of days gone by. The old stone-paved streets and vintage buildings seem to whisper stories of the past, making it an ideal location to capture the historical essence of Qingdao.
Walking through Taixingli, Huangdao Road, Sanjiangli, Haibo Road, Guangxingli, and the northern part of Jiaozhou Road, one finds the most densely packed liyuans—traditional courtyard residences—in Qingdao. These buildings not only hold countless quirky and fascinating tales of old Qingdao but are also cherished memories of childhood for many residents. Preserved in their original form, they are filled with the marks of the city’s development and embody the purest cultural heritage of Qingdao. Inside the Liyuan Memory Museum, vintage photographs and artifacts silently tell the story of this city’s past, inviting visitors to pause and take in the rich history at their own pace.Qingdao’s autumn is best experienced in Badaguan. On the way to this scenic area, the romance of European charm unfolds with architecture in distinct German, English, French, Russian, and Japanese styles. Each building has its own unique character, making it an ideal spot to wander leisurely or find the perfect angle to capture the enchanting and distinctive romance that is unique to Qingdao. This photowalk was not only an in-depth exploration of Qingdao’s historic districts but also a valuable opportunity for learning and exchange. The event’s seminar was held at Sky Cloud Qingdao, where, from 369 meters above, participants enjoyed sweeping views of mountains, sea, and cityscapes. At the seminar, Director Jin Yilin from the Public Service Center delivered a welcome speech, introducing the contest details and photowalk arrangements. Experts and photographers from various fields also shared their photography techniques and insights.
As the sun set, the day-long photowalk gradually came to an end. From the historical charm of Silver Fish Alley, to the natural beauty of Badaguan, and the urban skyline at Sky Cloud Qingdao, each step marked the photographers’ journey of exploration and their experience of the dynamic renewal within Qingdao’s historic districts.Whether a professional photographer or a lifestyle short-video creator, everyone can find their stage in the “Meet Qingdao: 2024 Photography and Short Video Contest.” Let’s join together to capture the city’s beautiful moments through our lenses and celebrate the vibrant and magnificent spirit of Qingdao.
