In a world dominated by technology, it is no secret that our children are growing up surrounded by digital devices and online experiences. As parents, we often marvel at how effortlessly our children seem to embrace technology, assuming they're naturally adept at handling it. However, the reality is that, as parents, we play a crucial role in guiding our children to become truly literate in the digital space.
Preparing for a Digital Future
With artificial intelligence and new technologies emerging every day, the skills our children need for the future extend beyond traditional learning. Rethinking Digital Literacy
It's easy to assume that our tech-savvy youngsters are born experts in handling digital devices. While they may navigate smartphones and tablets with ease, they still need our guidance to develop the critical thinking skills required to navigate the online world responsibly. As parents, our role is not just to monitor screen time but to actively foster digital literacy – a set of skills that goes beyond basic device use.
Digital literacy is not just about knowing how to use a computer or software. It is about a comprehensive set of skills and understanding that empowers our children to function, think critically, create, and stay safe in the digital world. This goes beyond what they learn in their computer classes and requires an understanding of technology, cognitive abilities, and responsible online behaviour.
