[SEU News Network, August 11th] On 11 August, the Paris 2024 Mass Participation Marathon (the Marathon Pour Tous) officially kicked off. China’s “Marathon Queen”, Huang Xuemei, stepped onto the course and achieved a great result as the first female finisher. According to the reporter, Huang Xuemei is a 2011 software engineering undergraduate student of Southeast University (SEU), who used to be a member of the university’s orienteering and track and field teams. After graduating in 2015, she works as a programmer in finance but continues to dedicate her spare time to track and field training, ultimately shining brightly on the international stage.

In 2021, Huang Xuemei participated in the Southeast University Campus Marathon and was the first to finish.
This Mass Participation Marathon is the first in Olympic history, sharing the same course as the official marathon. A total of 40,048 public participants worldwide , including over 120 Chinese runners, were selected to compete. Huang Xuemei completed the race in a time of 2:41:03, with a split of 1:19:38 for the first half and 1:21:25 for the second, becoming the first female runner to cross the finish line.Figure 1: Huang Xuemei at the Paris Olympics.
