Previously, Prof. Wang Xingping’s team was invited to attend the inaugural Africa Urban Forum convened in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. The forum was jointly hosted by the African Union, UN-Habitat, and the Ethiopian Federal Government. During the event, the team engaged in various international cooperation and exchange activities, which helped consolidate and expand their collaborations with international organizations and Ethiopian institutions, achieving positive results.
During the Forum, Prof. Wang Xingping delivered a thematic presentation and a keynote report at a parallel session, sharing China’s experience in the development, planning, and construction of development zones, which drew significant attention from participants. Also at the forum, Prof. Wang met with H.E. Moussa Bala Fofana, Senegal’s Minister of Urban Planning, Territorial Communities, and Territorial Development; H.E. Amina Abdi Aden, Djibouti’s Minister of the City, Urban Planing and Housing; and H.E. Dieudonné Ndayikunda Dukundane, Burundi’s Minister of Infrastructure, Equipment and Social Housing. Additionally, he was interviewed by the Ethiopian News Agency.
In addition, Prof. Wang Xingping’s team, in collaboration with the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at the College of Social Sciences of Addis Ababa University and the Ethiopia Branch of China Jiangsu International Economic and Technical Cooperation Group Co., Ltd., co-hosted the 5thAcademic Seminar of China-Africa Industrialization, Urbanization, and Urban-Rural Planning at Addis Ababa University. The team also paid a special visit to the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, where they reported to the embassy leaders on the outcomes of nearly a decade of collaboration, next plans and challenges faced by the two sides in joint research, talent cultivation, personnel exchanges, joint teaching, and platform building. Chief Embassy official Shen Qinmin appreciated SEU’s long-term and fruitful cooperation with Ethiopia and provided further collaboration guidance.
