The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) held a press conference at the Main Media Center (MMC), announcing the MVP of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022. Chinese swimmers Zhang Yufei and Qin Haiyang were honored with this distinction, marking the first time in the Asian Games that two athletes have been selected as MVPs simultaneously.

SEUer Zhang Yufei set four Asian Games records and monopolized six gold medals at this year’s Asian Games, covering all three butterfly titles (women’s 50m, 100m, and 200m butterfly, respectively), women’s 50m freestyle and two relay wins (women’s 4×100m freestyle relay and mixed 4×100 medley relay, respectively).
Zhang Yufei expressed great honor in receiving this recognition, stating “I’m very honored to receive this MVP award and I feel like I’ve fulfilled my dream and promise before the Games.” She continued, saying, “Throughout the whole process, I felt China’s rapid development in sports, the use of technology in preparation, and team collaboration. This allowed me to not only compete on the world stage but also invite top coach teams from around the world. We progressed together through borderless exchanges and aim to create a new era of Chinese sports.”
