China's 40th Antarctic Team Sent New Year Message to SEU

(SEU News Network, January 1^st , Correspondent: Sun Yan) “We wish you all good health, success in work, a happy family, and all the best in 2024!” On December 27^th, 2023, China’s 40^thAntarctic Expedition Team sent a New Year’s message via telegram to express holiday greetings and heartfelt thanks to all the staff and students of SEU.

On November 1^st, 2023, China’s 40^th Antarctic expedition team members set sail from Shanghai on the “Xuelong”, “Xuelong 2” and “Tianhui” vessels, among which are two SEU researchers: Ge Jian, a teacher from the School of Automation of SEU, and Wang Qihang, a young researcher from the School of Automation of SEU. They are mainly responsible for maintaining and upgrading the “SEU Polar Energy” polar unattended intelligent power supply system set by SEU at Taishan Station and Kunlun Station.

The message mentioned that on the premise of ensuring the safety of major equipment and personnel, the expedition is implementing the navigation plan and inspection plan as scheduled, and has completed several major and key tasks. “All these achievements are inseparable from SEU’s long-term concern and strong support for the polar cause.” China’s 40^th Antarctic expedition team said in the message that next year would mark the 10^thanniversary of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s congratulatory letter to the completion of the Taishan Station in Antarctica, the inspection of the “Xuelong” vessel and the important instruction to “understand, protect and utilize Antarctica”, as well as the 20^th anniversary of the establishment of the Yellow River Station in the Arctic and the 40th anniversary of the polar expedition. May we unite more closely around the Central Party Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, fully implement Xi Jinping’s Thoughts on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and make new and greater contributions to achieving self-reliance in science and technology at a higher level, building a powerful country in education, science and technology, and talent, and promoting Chinese path to modernization in all respects.

It is said that the polar unattended intelligent power system developed by SEU has been successfully transported to the Antarctic inland Taishan Station and Kunlun Station with China’s 36^th and 39^thAntarctic scientific expedition inland teams and has been officially put into operation. The unattended equipment can provide a stable and reliable power supply for scientific research equipment at polar sites, accomplishing the established scientific research tasks.
