Career Express: Application Strategy, Resume for Success

MSAC

Event Review

On the afternoon of November 3rd at 2 PM, the Malaysia Students Association in China (MSAC) successfully held a workshop titled “MSAC Career Express: Application Strategy, Resume for Success”. This workshop was designed to build a solid foundation for students embarking on their job search journey, helping them tackle employment challenges with confidence and make their resume the shining introduction to their career path!

We were honored to have the experienced career mentor, Mr. Miles, lead the workshop. With his deep industry insights and hands-on experience, he guided participants through two core topics.

Resume Template Selection and Writing Techniques

Mr. Miles provided an in-depth analysis of the intense competition in today’s job market, emphasizing that in a landscape with limited positions, precise positioning and thorough preparation are key to standing out. He highlighted that although the post-pandemic era presents many challenges, it also brings new opportunities amidst these uncertainties. For graduates, improving job search skills and gaining practical experience are especially important.

He stressed that the resume, as the “first impression” in a job application, is of utmost importance—it’s not only a screening tool but also a window to showcase one’s abilities and alignment with the job. An ideal resume should be a single page, well-organized, concise, and error-free. Following principles of relevance, structure, specificity, distinctiveness, and professionalism is essential. Additionally, supporting each experience with specific data transforms every entry into evidence of one’s strengths. When crafting a resume, be sure to emphasize relevant and impactful experiences, such as professional internships, project experience, and campus activities, to make your resume truly stand out!

Job Hunting at Top Companies: Seizing the Trends of the Times

In this lecture, Mr. Miles provided an in-depth analysis of job hunting at top companies, helping us precisely identify and keep up with industry trends to find the right “high-growth track” for ourselves. He emphasized that over the past five years, fields such as new energy, cross-border expansion, AI, and digital transformation have attracted significant attention and become popular industry directions. Although market trends change over time, industry development usually follows an objective cyclical pattern. These high-growth fields often address an urgent need from users, industries, or national priorities. As emerging fields, these industries tend to foster new major companies, offering early entrants greater potential opportunities.

To find high-paying jobs and uncover potential talent gaps, we can look for keywords in reports such as talent gap reports from the National Ministry of Human Resources and other institutions, industry salary reports, and macroeconomic reports. Additionally, targeting lesser-known yet high-potential companies is also a wise strategy. We can focus on companies within the supply chains of major corporations, follow national policy directions, or rely on choices made in the capital market to identify these potential gems.

Complete Guide to the Standard Job Application Process for Fresh Graduates

Graduates typically go through several stages in the job application process, including online application, written test, group interview, first interview, second interview, director interview, and HR interview. Group interviews mainly assess candidates’ communication and leadership skills, with common formats such as leaderless group discussions, debates, and innovative games. To prepare effectively, graduates can review real interview questions from various companies’ campus recruitment exams and get ready for the eight most common interview questions. These questions are generally universal, so candidates should tailor their answers to fit their own experiences and prepare corresponding strategies.

Important Considerations for Foreigners Working in China

Before working in China, foreigners must first obtain a work permit and a work-type residence permit. Signing a labor contract before acquiring these permits is invalid. Additionally, foreign students are generally not allowed to intern in China directly. According to Article 22 of the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on the Administration of the Entry and Exit of Foreigners, foreign students holding a study residence permit must obtain their school’s consent and apply to the immigration authority to have their work-study or internship location and duration added to their residence permit.

Photo Sessions

Through this workshop, we not only gained practical resume-building techniques but also developed a clearer understanding of our future career paths. We extend our thanks to Mr. Miles for his invaluable insights, which left every participant inspired and ready to strive for their dream job offers!
