An influencer in southern China, known as Hua, has drawn significant attention and criticism for his videos demonstrating how to clean bloodstains and dissolve bones, which some fear could inadvertently assist criminals.

Hua, who claims to be a senior researcher at a biotechnology institute, has amassed over 350,000 followers on a Chinese short-video platform. His tutorials, which range from household cleaning tips to using forensic techniques, have raised ethical and legal concerns.

One of Hua's videos shows him removing bloodstains from a bathroom floor using hydrogen peroxide and toilet cleaner, while another demonstrates how toothpaste can be used to clean blood from fabric. Hua also employs luminol reagent and UV light to detect hidden blood traces, a method commonly used in forensic science. These videos have garnered thousands of likes and shares.

Perhaps the most alarming tutorial involves dissolving chicken bones using drain cleaner mixed with hot water. Within 30 minutes, the bones break down into a red liquid. Hua explains that this is due to the hydroxide in the drain cleaner reacting with the calcium in the bones.

Critics argue that these demonstrations could provide a "blueprint" for committing and covering up crimes. "What if criminals start using these techniques?" one netizen questioned. Another criticized Hua for profiting from these tutorials by selling drain cleaner online, with over 300 bottles sold at 34 yuan each.

However, some viewers defended Hua, highlighting his practical cleaning tips, such as removing mold stains with toothpaste and vinegar. A spokesperson for Hua's institute clarified that their focus is on science education and denied any intent to promote criminal activities.

Despite this, concerns from forensic experts and legal professionals persist. An anonymous forensic scientist noted that luminol, prominently featured in Hua’s videos, is essential in police investigations. "I fear someone might use these methods to hide crime scenes," the expert said.
