A police operation in Thailand gained widespread attention after an officer successfully apprehended a sex offender by disguising himself as foliage, using a ghillie suit in a rural pursuit that culminated in the suspect's arrest.
The case began on December 15 in Chachoengsao province when a 12-year-old girl fell victim to a sexual assault. The victim had initially connected with someone known as "Ree" on social media, who arranged a meeting with her and introduced her to a 26-year-old man named Sharif. The group, joined by the suspect Bang Din, traveled to a resort in Nakhon Nayok province.
At the resort, Ree and Sharif deliberately left the victim alone with Bang Din under the pretense of checking their motorcycle. During this time, Bang Din allegedly assaulted the girl before abandoning her on the roadside when she requested to return home.
Following the incident, authorities issued an arrest warrant for Bang Din on December 11, charging him with multiple offenses including trafficking of minors, deception, kidnapping, and sexual assault on a minor under 15. After several failed attempts to capture the suspect, including one where he escaped on a motorcycle, the police devised an unconventional strategy.
The breakthrough came when officers located Bang Din in a rural area. Adapting military tactics to the challenging terrain, one officer donned a ghillie suit – a type of camouflage clothing designed to resemble foliage. The officer crawled more than 300 meters through rice fields, using a telescope to locate the suspect hiding under a house. The creative approach proved successful, leading to Bang Din's arrest and subsequent confession to all charges.
The operation garnered significant attention on social media, with users praising the police force's resourcefulness while finding humor in the unusual tactics. Many drew parallels between the officer's camouflage and the popular game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), with one commenter noting how the scene reminded them of the game's theme music.
