Dr. Sankar Ghosh received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He conducted his postdoctoral training with David Baltimore at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) / Whitehead Institute, where he initiated his groundbreaking work on the regulatory role of NF-kB. He then joined the Yale School of Medicine in 1991 and was recruited to Columbia University in 2008 as the Chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology.
Dr. Sankar Ghosh's laboratory focuses on the role of NF-kB in regulating inflammation and immune responses that has implications for the treatment of arthritis, colitis, dermatitis, asthma, and other inflammatory conditions, as well as cancer and muscular dystrophy. His research interests have expanded over the years to include the study of the role of long non-coding RNAs and microRNAs in the inflammatory process. His recent work has also shed light on novel mechanisms and pathways by which the NF-kB pathway influences immune responses to cancer.
