Leo Gallery and KORNFELD Galerie are pleased to announce the joint presentation of a solo project by Tamara Kvesitadze(Georgia), at the Shanghai Art021 Contemporary Art Fair 2024 (Booth: W18) from 7th to 10th November.

Kvesitadze’s oeuvre features kinetic sculptures and paintings in which the element of the human being and the tension of genders and sexualities are underscored. Her works have been influenced by ancient mythology, the Greek philosophical tradition, and Surrealist ideas. Her art investigates both the internal conflicts of modern individuals and the relationship between individual and society. The artist places great emphasis on the notion of movement in her sculptural output, masterfully blending art and construction. She espouses the philosophy of Heraclitus and attempts to embody dynamism in her practice.

Man and Woman,2021

铝 Aluminium

210 x 220 x 100 cm

Ed. 9/9+2AP

Tamara Kvesitadze's Man and Woman (aka Ali and Nino) is a deeply emotional sculpture that resonates with themes of longing and heartache. Much like the famous song it is named after, the work reflects the sorrow and desperation tied to the fear of losing someone. The kinetic sculpture depicts two figures who come together and then part, symbolizing the fragile and fleeting nature of love. Their movements evoke the pain of separation and the yearning for connection, capturing the essence of a plea to stay, as expressed in the song. Through its graceful motion, the sculpture becomes a poignant visual metaphor for love, loss, and the human desire to hold on.

Cave Tellers,2023

Mix Media

250 x 180 x 15 cm

Cave Tellers delves into the narrative power of memory, storytelling, and the human experience. This intricate sculpture features figures emerging from or embedded within a cave-like structure, symbolizing the timeless act of passing down stories and knowledge from generation to generation. The cave itself is a metaphor for the subconscious, a repository of human history, myths, and personal memories. Through this work, Kvesitadze explores how individuals and societies are shaped by the tales they tell and the secrets they keep. Cave Tellers invites viewers to consider the depth of human identity and the layers of stories that define our existence.

Red Wall,2016

Polyester, PU foam, PVC, Acrylic

178 x 200 x 20 cm

Red Wall is a thought-provoking sculpture that explores the barriers and divisions that exist between people. The vibrant red wall serves as both a literal and symbolic obstacle, representing emotional, psychological, and societal boundaries that separate individuals or groups. The figures in the sculpture attempt to connect across the wall, emphasizing the yearning for understanding and unity despite the obstacles in their path. With its bold design and poignant message, Red Wall invites reflection on the struggles we face in bridging gaps and overcoming divides, whether in personal relationships or the broader social landscape.

Ne me quitte pas ,2017

Bronze

70 x 66 x 90 cm

Ed. 15+2AP

Much like the famous song it is named after, the work reflects the sorrow and desperation tied to the fear of losing someone.
