Since 2004
A foreigner discovered while reviewing his third-party electricity payment platform bill that even though he had left China more than a year ago, the platform was still deducting electricity fees. They then sought help from the power supply company.
It turned out that during his time working in China a few years ago, this individual had rented an apartment through a leasing company. To make paying electricity bills more convenient, they had linked a third-party payment platform for automatic bill payments. However, when he returned to his home country, they forgot to unlink the automatic payment account in China. After they moved out, the leasing company rented the apartment to new tenants, and the electricity charges incurred by the new tenants continued to be deducted from the foreigner’s account.
After verification, the leasing company refunded the mistakenly deducted electricity fees.
If you are also using Alipay’s auto-debit feature, remember to cancel this service before leaving China.
Go to City Services, then tap Utilities to manage the payment.
