When the Pereiras—a couple based in the United States with their three daughters—discovered Meera Pyarelal’s work, they were drawn to the charming colonial styles that echoed across her designs. They yearned for a home closer to their roots and family, leading them to build a heritage-inspired 5,000-square-foot, four-bedroom apartment in Kochi, Kerala.

The Pereiras wanted a home that exuded colonial charm, served as a sanctuary for their aging parents, and could eventually house heirlooms for future generations. The design needed to balance heritage aesthetics with modern-day comforts, ensuring that all contemporary appliances and automation systems were seamlessly integrated into the space.

One of the primary challenges was to maintain the home's colonial heritage essence while incorporating advanced home automation and modern conveniences. This included the need to conceal all modern devices, wires, and appliances to preserve the traditional look.

A long dining table can accommodate 10 people for dining, providing ample space for family gatherings and social activities. The wall uses a characteristic monochrome wallpaper, creating a unique atmosphere while giving people a slightly vicissitudes of life. Artworks and potted plants are placed on the decorative cabinets, adding artistic atmosphere and natural beauty. The crystal chandelier above the dining table becomes the focus of the entire restaurant, emitting a dazzling light, adding a luxurious and romantic atmosphere to the space. The overall design cleverly combines classical and modern elements to create a dining space that has both historical charm and fashion sense.
一张长餐桌可容纳 10 人就餐，为家庭聚会和社交活动提供了充足的空间。墙面采用特色单色壁纸，营造出独特的氛围，同时给人一种略显沧桑的感觉。装饰柜上摆放着艺术品和盆栽，增添了艺术气息和自然之美。餐桌上方的水晶吊灯则成为整个餐厅的焦点，散发着璀璨的光芒，为空间增添了奢华与浪漫的氛围。整体设计将古典与现代元素巧妙融合，打造出一个既具有历史韵味又不失时尚感的用餐空间。
In this interior design, there are two rooms with different characteristics. The bed background in one room is designed with a combination of white wall guard and beige wall cloth, creating a warm and elegant atmosphere. The dark green curtains add a touch of depth and stability to the space. The backboard of the characteristic wooden bed is a combination of hollow weaving and wooden structure, which not only shows a unique craftsmanship beauty, but also injects a natural atmosphere into the room.
在这个室内设计中，有两个各具特色的房间。其中一个房间的床背景采用白色护墙与米色墙布相结合的设计，营造出温馨而雅致的氛围。墨绿色的窗帘为空间增添了一抹深邃与稳重，特色木床的床背板是镂空编织与木质结构的结合，既展现出独特的工艺美感，又为房间注入了自然的气息。
In the other room, the bed background is a wooden wall guard of the same color as the bed, arranged in a square combination, showing a sense of regularity and order. The light wood curtains echo the wooden wall guard, making the whole space present a harmonious and unified light wood tone, giving people a sense of tranquility and comfort. Through careful design, both rooms cleverly match different materials and colors to create bedroom spaces with their own characteristics.
另一个房间，床背景是与床颜色一致的木质护墙，呈方格组合排列，展现出规整与秩序感。浅木色的窗帘与木质护墙相呼应，使整个空间呈现出和谐统一的浅木色调，给人一种宁静舒适的感觉。两个房间都通过精心的设计，将不同的材质与色彩巧妙搭配，打造出各具特色的卧室空间。
