In a heart-wrenching story of a mother's love and desperation, 72-year-old Huang, a resident of Huarong County, has been tirelessly searching for her daughter, Xiang Xiaofang, who lost contact with her family 16 months ago after marrying in Japan.

Xiang Xiaofang, born in 1982, married a Japanese man in 2011 and moved to Japan. For years, she maintained close contact with her parents, sharing details of her life abroad. However, their last video call in August 2023 revealed troubling details. Xiang confided in her mother about suffering domestic violence and financial difficulties, including being forced to pay rent.

Huang recalls her daughter’s distress during their last conversation and fears for her safety. Adding to her burden is her 78-year-old husband’s health condition; he suffered a stroke earlier this year and now relies on medication. Huang's husband shares her deep wish to see their daughter again.

Huang’s search has been anything but easy. She juggles a physically demanding job as a sanitation worker and sells vegetables to make ends meet, all while saving money for the costly trip to Japan. Despite her efforts, her income is insufficient to fund her journey.

Her story has sparked widespread attention and support. Local authorities, compassionate individuals, and members of the Chinese community in Japan have stepped forward to assist. Through media coverage, her case has reached the Chinese consulate in Japan, which is now investigating the matter.

On December 11, a report by Shenzhen Media revealed new developments. A Chinese youth, Ye, who previously studied in Japan, and Liu, a Chinese resident currently living in Japan, are helping in the search. Liu managed to contact Xiang’s husband, who claimed he had seen her earlier that day but oddly could not provide her contact information. He promised to facilitate a call between Xiang and Liu later that evening, though doubts about his sincerity remain.

Neighbors in Huang's community describe Xiang’s husband as financially unstable, often relying on monetary support from her family. One neighbor shared that Xiang had once decided to leave her husband and return to China, highlighting her deteriorating marital situation.

Reports also suggest that Xiang’s husband restricted her access to their child and controlled her finances. Huang mentioned that her daughter returned a 6,000 RMB transfer she sent.

Huang’s plea is simple yet deeply emotional: “Xiaofang, please come back. Don’t let him harm you anymore.” She has vowed to continue her search and is preparing for a journey to Japan with the hope of bringing her daughter home safely.
