Eliza couldn’t stop thinking about the glowing clock. Mr. Finch’s words—*“It’s a doorway”—*echoed in her mind as she lay awake that night. A doorway to what? And why was he so afraid of it?

The next morning, the shop was quiet. Mr. Finch was in his workshop, leaving Eliza to tend to the store. She kept glancing at the locked cabinet, her curiosity bubbling over.

By mid-afternoon, a peculiar customer entered the shop. He was tall, dressed in a dark overcoat, and his sharp eyes immediately locked onto the cabinet.

“I’m looking for something special,” the man said, his voice smooth but unsettling.

Eliza forced a polite smile. “What kind of clock are you looking for?”

The man’s lips curved into a faint smile. “Something old. Something… unique.”

Before Eliza could respond, Mr. Finch emerged from the workshop. His face turned pale the moment he saw the man.

“Mr. Radcliffe,” Finch said stiffly. “I didn’t expect you here.”

Radcliffe’s smile widened. “I heard you still had it. The clock. The one that isn’t a clock.”

Eliza’s heart skipped a beat. Finch stepped in front of the cabinet, his posture tense. “It’s not for sale.”

Radcliffe’s smile faltered, and his tone turned cold. “You know it doesn’t belong to you, Finch. You can’t protect it forever.”

Eliza watched the exchange in stunned silence, a chill running down her spine. Radcliffe left without another word, but the tension in the air lingered long after he was gone.

“That man is dangerous,” Mr. Finch said quietly, turning to Eliza. “If he ever comes back, you’re to stay away from him.”
