第17章 好消息
内容：卡罗尔打电话给鲍勃，告诉他饼干卖得很好，而且她次日早上要订1000件。鲍勃不确定是否能这么快做出来，但是卡罗尔坚持要这么多货。

日积月累：
1、sell like hotcakes：sell fast; be a popular item 非常抢手；畅销；热卖；大卖 指的是某样东西被迅速大量地售出。
热香饼(hotcakes)也叫松饼(pancake)在美国一种很受欢迎的早餐食品，例句：“Erin runs an ice cream truck. When the weather is hot, her ice-cream cones sell like hotcakes.(艾琳经营着一辆冰淇淋车。天气热的时候，她的甜筒冰淇淋就会卖得飞快)"。
2、sell out 售罄；全部卖完
3、right away 立刻；马上
近义表达：right now；at once
4、tall order: a task or goal that is difficult to achieve 难以完成的任务,过高要求。
That's a tall order. =That's too difficult. 那太难了。
tall order比difficult更加强调某件事情几乎不可能做到，或者需要付出巨大的代价才能做到;difficult则比较中性，只表示某件事情需要花费一些时间或者精力才能做到。
tall order这个短语的字面意思是“高的订单”，但是它在口语中的实际含义是“难以实现的要求”或者“艰巨的任务”，它通常用来表示某件事情很困难，需要很多努力或者运气才能完成。
● Getting everyone to agree on this issue is a tall order. 让所有人都同意这个问题是一件很难办到的事情
● It's a tall order to expect him to finish the project in one week. 期望他在一周内完成这个项目是不切实际的
● She has a tall order to fill as the new manager. 她作为新经理有很多艰巨的任务要完成
5、Don't blow it. 别搞砸了。
To blow it: to spoil an opportunity 因笨而失去(良机等);将...搞糟
eg. We had our chance and blew it. 我们曾有一次机会但却失去了。
6、burn the midnight oil: stay up late studying or working 开夜车，挑灯夜战
7、Chitchat: casual conversation; gossip 闲谈;闲话
eg. Let's get together for some chitchat. 我们聚聚聊聊。
8、deliver the goods: meet expectations; to do what’s required 履行诺言;不负众望
需要注意文中deliver the goods的意思是“说到做到”，而不是“送货”。
eg. ①They made all kinds of promises before the election, but have since failed to deliver the goods. 选举前他们做出了各种承诺，可后来却一直没有兑现。
②You must prove you can deliver the goods. 你必须证明你能不负众望。
9、 do one’s best: try one's best；try as hard as possible 尽力
10、Rest assured: be sure 放心
eg. You can rest assured that your son will be happy here. 你放心好了,你儿子在这儿会快乐的。
11、be sitting pretty: in a good position (often financially) 日子过得很舒适，处于有利地位；处境优越，处境令人羡慕
12、take off: to become popular; to grow suddenly 开始；开始流行；突然受到广泛欢迎，突然被广泛使用；(想法、计划等)开始获得成功
eg. Their first major design took off in high schools and colleges. 他们的头一个重要的设计在大中学校流行开来。
After a slow start,the plan soon took off and was accepted by all. 计划开始进展很慢，但很快见成效了，而且被大家接受。
