Brilliant Results

for our IGCSE Class of 2024

This year, we have continued the achievements of our previous endeavour. Through our relentless pursuit of excellence, we have helped our students gain a series of brilliant achievements once more.

The IGCSE class of 2024 has achieved a remarkable 36% of Grades 8/9,  equivalent to A**/A* awarded to top candidates globally. The most common grade awarded across all subject disciplines to WASCZ students was Grade 9, with over one in every five grades awarded being of the very highest accolade. This exceptional performance reflects our students’ academic mastery and command of English, a testament to their commitment to excellence and intellectual curiosity. We ensure that every child can excel.

These results are a testament to the collective effort of our school community, representing hours of hard work over many months. We congratulate all our students and extend a heartfelt thank you to all parents and staff for your unwavering support. Our students have crossed a significant milestone on their journey to top universities and future success.

Mr SchofieldHead of Upper School

“It is not just top scores that are to be celebrated. That so many of our students have passed their IGCSE examinations demonstrates significant achievement since joining the school, either as founding members or, more recently, navigating the academic demands of the rigorous IGCSE examination series for 16-year-olds.

“For our students, each individual’s journey represents their courage, humility, grit and fortitude in working predominantly in their second language to overcome their first significant external exams. We celebrate their justly received rewards and are again immensely proud of our students. I also extend my heartfelt thanks and congratulations to our talented staff body and supportive parents.

“Well done. You are now sixth-formers at WASCZ, and I sincerely wish you all the best in your A-level studies.”

This year’s crop of 9, 8, and 7 grades celebrate the fantastic teaching and learning environment. This is not just academic success but holistic growth, pastoral care, and extra-curricular enrichment. Our post-pandemic students undoubtedly still feel the effects of the lockdown years, but at WASCZ, no learning has been lost, and students have fully prepared for formal examinations. Our wide range of IGCSE subjects continues into a similarly broad sixth-form offer. We look forward to welcoming our A-level students back into our thriving community next week.

Our headlines in brief are:

· 50% of all grades are equivalent to an A grade or better (9-7)

· 40%of the cohort were awarded grades that averaged a 7 or better across all of their subjects

· Chinese – 98% at grades 9-7

· Further Pure 1 Mathematics – 86% at grades 9-7

Our STEM subjects again top the billing, with 73% attaining 9-7 in Chemistry and 80% gaining 9-7 in Mathematics and Physics. We look forward to introducing Engineering related courses this new academic year. Similarly, in Computer Science and Biology, 56% of our students achieved the prestigious 9-7 grades, and in Music, 60% of the cohort also achieved the most sought-after grades.

IGCSEs represent a stepping stone and bridge to future challenges in each student’s A-level study program. Below are some highlights of our cohort’s inspirational plans beyond IGCSE.

L. Wang achieved an average IGCSE score of 9 across natural science subjects and Further Pure Mathematics. Wang will continue to read Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, looking towards a university course in Engineering.

F. Qian and A. Wei achieved well across a broad range of subjects and will go on to Sixth Form to pursue courses in Economics, Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Physics.

E. Zhou, A. Zhang, H. Que, Fa. Shao, I. Shen, A. Song, L. Song, C. Wang, T. Yu, L. Wu and F. Wu achieved excellent results in a broad range of subjects and will continue to pursue courses in natural sciences.

Others, such as E. Xu, have also achieved excellent results across all subjects and will pursue History and the Visual Arts courses.

Mr BarryDeputy Head (Extension)

“It is a pleasure to see the outstanding efforts of so many students result in these excellent achievements. In contrast to their nerves and anticipation only a few weeks ago, they can take immense pride in their achievements. As a school, we are very proud of them. We look forward to welcoming them into the sixth form, working with them, and supporting them towards gaining offers to study at the world's top universities.”

Finally, to our students, you have received your first gold medal on your growth path. Remember this delightful taste of success: we hope it will motivate you as you move on to your next challenge!
