Every year, WASCZ students earn many certificates, medals and trophies for their outstanding performances in prestigious academic competitions across the globe. After collecting many accolades this year, WASCZ students and teachers have won over 75 such awards. This marks an impressive milestone to proudly gather, recognise the achievements of our students and praise their hard work and dedication. It also demonstrates the school's commitment to excellence, a recognition that we all can take pride in.

Among the many academic competitions in which our students won prizes include the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge, Senior Mathematical Challenge, AMC10, AMC12, the British Mathematical Olympiad and numerous other Maths, Physics and Chemistry competitions. These competitions are known for their rigorous testing and high standards, making our students' achievements even more commendable.
What are UKMT and AMC ?
UKMT
The United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) was founded in 1996 and stands as a registered charity, whose charitable aim is to advance the education of young people in mathematics by offering a wide range of national-level competitions and activities for students from 11 to 18 years old in the UK. Among the many mathematical challenges organised by UKMT, their biggest competitions are the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Mathematical Challenge (JMC/IMC/SMC), which have over 700,000 entries from 6,000 schools annually and are the UK's most popular school maths competitions.
AMC
The American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) is sponsored by the Mathematics Association of America (MAA). Today, the competition has become the most influential youth math competition, with over 300,000 students participating annually in over 6,000 schools in 30 countries and regions. AMC hosts a series of competitions such as AMC8 for grade 8 or below and AMC10/12 for students at/below grade 10/12. AIME was held in March for high-scoring AMC10/12 participants.
G12 student N. Chen (Fonteyn), who achieved Gold in the Senior Mathematical Challenge and a Medal of Distinction in AMC10, shared how her experience shaped her academic pathway. She emphasised the personal growth and learning experience she gained, saying: "Taking part in extra competitions takes a lot of effort, so you need to make sure that you are committed before you decide to participate. However, taking part in a competition helps you to think from different perspectives and definitely helps your learning."
Impressively, around half of our students' awards were top-level accolades, including many gold awards, distinctions, and several special merits. We are thrilled to announce that several WASCZ students scored in the top 1% and top 5% of competitors in AMC12, one of the world's most respected and challenging academic competitions.

In addition, WASCZ received two awards for being a Merit Roll School and an Honor Roll School in the AMC 10 and AMC12 competitions, respectively. These awards are only given to schools whose students perform outstandingly, highlighting our continuing commitment to academic excellence and student achievement. We were also honoured with the same award last year.
E. Li (Elgar), G12, also achieved a Medal of Distinction in AMC10. He explained how the school' s curriculum and educational ethos helped him: "This competition is an unforgettable and valuable experience. The school's mathematics curriculum encouraged me to repeatedly and deeply discuss mathematics, establish mathematical thinking, dare to face challenges, go through hardships, and finally experience the joy of achievement after proving myself."

Ms L. Jiang, our Head of Mathematics, commented, "I am so proud of all the students and teachers for their efforts and successes in maths competitions. Once again, a big congratulations to all award winners!"
Participation in these contests enhances students' understanding of their subjects and fosters critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a spirit of healthy competition. They offer excellent opportunities to demonstrate academic ability, determination and resilience to universities during the application process.
