Embarking on this monumental project, I realized that Wagner’s Ring is a beautiful example of Classical symmetry and proportion, and it was very important to me that Ring Odyssey refl ect that very same structural ideal. All the music in my work follows the chronological order of the original score, highlighting the beauty of Wagner’s superstructure which runs through his four huge operas. In Ring Odyssey, because of its reduced scale and increased sense of perspective, this over-arching, elegantly symmetrical structure is truly discernible, even to someone unfamiliar with Wagner’s Ring. My hope is that Ring Odyssey will help the casual listener, the devoted music lover and my fellow musicians to appreciate Wagner’s original 16-hour version all the more.![]()
