On September 24 and 25, the film Chinatown Cha-Cha, directed by Luka Yuanyuan Yang, had its global premiere at the 8th Pingyao International Film Festival (PIFF), along with a press conference. Luka and the creative team were present to engage in in-depth discussions with the audience and the media.

Chinatown Cha-Cha is Luka's first feature film as a director.  During the press conference, Luka stated that her motivation for creating this documentary arose from an "instant connection" with the protagonists. She incorporated a diverse array of materials into the film, collaborating with her creative team to achieve a "symphony" of music, animation, and historical footage, while also striving to create a more comprehensive "Chinese puzzle".  Producer Xu Xiao disclosed that she and Luka met at the Pingyao International Film Festival. Similar to Luka, Xu expressed how her ongoing interactions with the senior dancers profoundly moved her, prompting both of them to embark on a journey to explore the "time capsule" of these remarkable individuals.

Chinatown Cha-Cha is a documentary that tells the story of the "Duban Dance Troupe" and their cross-ocean journey of cultural rediscovery. The troupe embarks from San Francisco and Las Vegas in the United States, travels to Chinatown in Havana, Cuba, and ultimately reaches their ancestral homeland—China—fulfilling their long-held desire to return to their roots. Throughout the film, memories from their journey are gradually revealed, allowing the members of the troupe to express their deep emotions associated with their former stages. At each performance location, more of the protagonists’ past stories come to light, enabling the audience to gain insight into the legendary and tumultuous dance journeys they undertook from youth to young adulthood. The film blends archival materials, historical records, and vibrant on-location footage, offering not only a reflective journey through the experiences of Chinese artists in the American performing arts scene but also a stunning portrayal of the dancers' legacies and the beauty of life and struggle.
