This cutting-edge system can significantly extend the critical “golden hour” for treating traumatic injuries, potentially saving the lives of military personnel, traffic accident victims, and those injured in remote locations. By leveraging a decision tree crafted by Pitt’s critical care doctors and advanced machine learning algorithms developed by CMU scientists, this system optimizes trauma care in the field.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Defense and recently featured in Intensive Care Medicine Experimental, this innovation extends the window for addressing internal traumatic bleeding during emergency transport by nearly four times.
