Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine have achieved a groundbreaking advancement in autonomous trauma care. This cutting-edge system can significantly extend the critical “golden hour” for treating traumatic injuries, potentially saving the lives of military personnel, traffic accident victims, and those injured in remote locations. By leveraging a decision tree crafted by Pitt’s critical care doctors and advanced machine learning algorithms developed by CMU scientists, this system optimizes trauma care in the field.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Defense and recently featured in Intensive Care Medicine Experimental, this innovation extends the window for addressing internal traumatic bleeding during emergency transport by nearly four times.

Tepper
Tepper School Economist Examines Impact of Noncompete Agreements

Liyan Shi

Liyan Shi, an economist from Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business, has published a significant study in Econometrica examining the impact of non-compete agreements. Her research reveals that these agreements can harm the economy by restricting labor mobility and innovation. Shi's findings support a near-ban on noncompetes, aligning with the FTC's recent rule to promote competition.
