To build a diorama you first have to know what to build and what kind of story you would like to tell to the viewer.
In this example I wanted to show german and Hungarian soldiers who survived the Budapest outbreak and reached the friendly border tired and exausted.
When starting this diorama project,
Historian and fellow modeller Mirko Bayerl made a few sketches from how this dio should look.
I first started with posing the figures. Most of the figures are converted. Arms and legs are first made with 1mm copper wire and glued on a plastic or resin commercial torso.
Next the head, hands and boots are added. The biggest challenge is to build the figures in the right position.
The best way to figure out if its anatomical correct is to try the pose yourself in front of a mirror.
Next step will be sculpting the bare arms and legs. I always use magic sculpt for this. When dry you can add the cloth parts onto the figure. Once you master this method, the possibilities for a diorama are endless!
