It is a special day, Jan 12 2006, Thursday and cloudy.
At 7am, mummy bled a little, and then called Dr Lee. He asked mummy to stay at home and call him at emergency. It bled more at 9am and Dr Lee let us go to Mt Alvernia Hospital.
We arrived at MAH around 11am. After examination, the nurse said:'You have to stay here, and it opened 10mm.' Then enemas were given to avoid passing during delivery. Now it only bled and mummy did not feel any uncomfortable or pain. Then we had nothing to do, only waiting Peter's coming. Mummy was lying on the bed, the fetus was monitored by machine, we could heard the 'podon, podon' of fetus' heart beating. It showed that the fetus' heart beat at about 140 per min. And another number showed the pain, it was commonly below than 10, mummy would feel pain when it grew over 20.
The nurse delivered the lunch to mummy at noon. It was not very much but enough and well-fed. After lunch mummy still felt nothing, so she got up for walking in the room without monitor under the permission of nurse. And mummy felt some about lather. When will Peter come on earth?
Enjoying the afternoon tea, Mummy felt a little pain. Dr. Lee was coming at around 2pm. He said it was 30mm opened and he had broken the amnion, and the delivery would be at around 10pm. So we would see our son tonight.
In order to accelerate the labour, oxytocin was injected with glucose solution. Then from the afternoon, the contraction was stronger and stronger, and the pain was obviously more and more. The pain could be relieved by massaging the back and waist. However, the pain was too intense to stand, and sweat poured down mummy's face and neck.
It is about 7.30pm, mummy could not stand the pain. She asked the nurse to inject with epidural anaesthesia. Mummy still felt painful after injection. The doctor explained that there will be some delay for activation. It was 8pm now and the nurse examed the uterus, then she said that it opened 80mm. It seems Peter will come soon. The number showed on fetal monitor said that the contraction was beginning, and now it was almost no pain since anaesthesia was activated. Although there still had a little pain, it was not so obviously.
Dr. Lee arrived after 9pm and made the examination. During examination only doctor and nurses were allowed stay inside. Daddy has to stay outside and waited in guest room. Soon a nurse went out the room and cried to daddy:'Hurry up! It's time for ...' Then daddy hurried to the labour room.
Now Dr. Lee and nurses were busy in preparing baby delivery. Dr Lee told daddy that it was full opened and the head of baby could be seen. He also let daddy have a look. Ja, it is sure, the top of head could be seen and there were some hairs. It was so excited to enjoy a baby birth.
It was near to 9.40pm, the delivery began under the guild of nurse. Daddy and nurse hold mummy's legs, and then pushed; it was not so good, maybe because of incorrect actions. Well, waiting for next contraction, ok, it was coming; the doctor made cutting with episiotomy and a pump was used for delivery aid. The nurse shouted:'Push! Push!' It was very quick and efficient, baby's head and shoulder was outside now, wet and hairy on the shoulder. Then after another push, Peter was coming to the world with the shout of nurse, 'Nine forty-nine, boy!' Remember it, Nine forty-nine at night! Now the baby still connected with mummy by umbilical cord, with pink skin and something like cheese at his buns, and strangely with pastiness hands and feet. The head was a bit longer, the face, especially forehead, looked a bit shrink. In hand of doctor, Peter was dancing with his limbs...
The nurse was busy in cleaning his nose and mouse. Peter cried, 'Aiye, aiye', it sounds so fair. The doctor asked daddy cut the umbilical cord, it is easy and memorable. Then the nurses were cleaning baby's body, injecting Vitamin K, and measuring the baby. Peter was a handsome boy, 50cm long and a little above 3kg. The baby stopped crying after dressing in clothes. Mmmm, our chickabiddy!
We were so exciting and would forgive to record this memorable time by camera without doctor's remind. Peter opened his eyes soon, big and bright, looks like his mum. And the nose and lips also followed his mother.
The baby lay in his cabinet. And his eyeballs moved follow the sound when daddy gently called his pet name. The nurse suggested daddy to hold baby. It was so constrained. Daddy did not know how to hold the baby, anyway, daddy succeeded in holding baby at last. Walking in the labour room and smiling was on the face. The baby seemed to seek for teat, hehe
Passing the baby to mummy, mummy also was very happy. And our poor peter has to wait for breastfeeding after immunization injection.
