Understanding the DSA Process
Direct School Admission (DSA) allows P6 students in Singapore to apply to secondary schools based on their talents and achievements. Here’s a brief breakdown of the DSA timeline, using 2024 as reference:
Jan to May:
Explore School Choices
Schools offer different talent areas, each with its own selection process and schedule. Explore the available schools and their offerings by visiting their websites. Schools generally update this information by late April.
May to June:
Apply
After shortlisting schools, submit your child’s application through the DSA-Sec Portal before the June deadline.
July to Sep:
Attend Interviews, Auditions, or Trials
Schools may invite shortlisted students for interviews, auditions, or trials, depending on the talent area. Each school has a unique selection process. Offers will be sent by September.
October:
Select Preferred Schools
After receiving offers, you will need to choose up to three schools in order of preference through the DSA-Sec Portal.
November:
Receive School Allocation
School allocation results, along with PSLE results, will be released in November.

While more DSA slots have been made available in recent years, the selection criteria are increasingly shifting towards non-academic talents. Schools are looking for students who are not only academically strong but also well-rounded, with achievements in leadership, the arts, and sports. This means that students who once might have secured a spot purely based on math achievements now face tougher competition.
Many Kangaroo.Study students and parents have shared that competition is much fiercer, and students with awards that would have previously landed them Confirmed Offers are now placed on Waiting Lists.
